I am looking for some LED lights to replace some PAR cans. Any suggestions on brands or models or sources to pick these up?

Opps, I forgot to mention this part of the lighting set up... I will still use regular par cans and spot lights for lighting myself. The LED fixtures I am looking for will be for more of a general color wash, and for back lighting.
Thank you again. |

Thanks for all the... .wait... never mind....lol
How about this. I have been doing some research. Has anyone used Chauvet 4bar LEDs? I played with some this week at a local music store. I don't think they would work in an actual theater. But, the may work in a gym on stands. Again, I only am using them for a wash. I am thinking of adding 4 sets - 16 fixtures. Will use traditional Pars and a spot light for lighting "me", and will of course keep the 500w moving lights that I currently use. As a bonus, I am looking at renting out my lighting rig to bands, and DJs. And am producing a series of small concerts. For these events, the chauvet 4bars will work fine for general washes... so, if I use them there, and they don't translate well to lighting theatrical scenes for magic... that is ok. So, does anyone have any experience with that particular (chauvet 4bar) fixture? I like it for its ease of set up, and for all the reasons LEDs are good (heat, power, color changing), as well as the price. One bar gives you 4 fixtures, with 4 colors. It replaces 16 par cans. (albeit less output than 16 pars). video ---> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b3WLFhDY4cg info ----> http://www.chauvetlighting.com/4-bar.html a place to buy from ---> http://www.zzounds.com/item--CHV4BAR thanks for any input, scott |

You cannot compare the charvet 4 bar led lights to normal par cans. They are much weaker and mostly for DJ's etc. They will not be effecient for theatre stages.
I still feel led has a long way to go to match the old par cans. In my experience you would need 4 led par cans to match a normal par 64. |

I did get a look at some 4bars. blah
A friend of mine, a Lighting Designer, used to say he hated all LEDs as well. But, a few days ago, he did say he saw some that were very good. He doesn't know the brand, or model... grr. but did say they ran the theater about $1000 each. He was impressed with the output, and it takes a lot to impress him...lol thanks for the info guys. sb |

He might have been talking about the Microh. The output is great at short distances but drops off significantly with any distance at all. They're also pretty expensive. I picked up two of the pure white LED ones and so far I haven't really been too impressed with them... Its hard to set them up at the corner of the stage in a banquet hall, so I've put them at the back of the room instead, and at that distance the output isn't very strong.

I'd recommend just about and par64 led fixtures...you can go with American dj, chauvet, and there's even a few other small brands that you can find if you search around. They even came out recently with some par64 Leds that are only about 2" thick which makes them easy to pack.

I think it's always good to try renting to see what you like.

If you're comfortable going a diy route, luxeon makes ultra bright led's called rebels. they have em at sparkfun.com along with driver boards. I've been considering using these for background lighting for my band.

It seems to me that LED's might be too bright to use as a wash. Perhaps not...but the ones I have seen just seem "white/blue bright"
