My wife recently returned from a Women in Faith Conference in Denver, Colorada.
She shared a story about a person on a cruise in Alaska. ( I have altered it sleightly) The person on the cruise wanted to get a picture of a whale. She kept praying for a whale. Please God, just one whale. No Whale. More time. More prayers. No Whale. In the mean time some icebergs came by. On the iceberg was a single penguin. He was so cute, looking like a magician in his tuxedo. It seemed like the penguin was saying, "hey I got dressed up, please take my picture." She took his picture. A few minutes later she saw another iceberg with a whole family of penguins. She took their picture too. The nearly normal moral of the story is, sometimes we are waiting for the Big Whale and miss the Penguins. Remember to reach for the Penguins. A similar message:
Some time ago the Mississippi River broke through a levy and flooded a small town near its banks. The elder of the town was a God-fearing man name Isaac who loved the Lord. Although quite elderly, Isaac took charge and supervised the evacuation of the townspeople ahead of the rapidly rising water. The water had reached the second floor of Isaac’s house and as he leaned out the window a rescue boat came by. "Get in the boat Isaac" the rescuers shouted. But Isaac waved them away, "Go rescue some others, the Lord will take care of me." So the boat went away to assist others. The rushing water continued to rise and Isaac had to climb to roof of his house, the water lapping at the eaves. Soon another rescue boat came by, pulled up against the roof and the rescuers pleaded with Isaac, "Get in the boat Isaac, the water is still rising!" Again Isaac waved them away. "There are still others in need, go tend to them, the good Lord will care for me." Reluctantly the rescue boat pulled away. Soon after, Isaac was clinging to the chimney, the churning water at his waist when a helicopter descended over his roof and lowered a ladder. Over the roar of the helicopter Isaac could hear the shouting from the helicopter crew, "Grab the ladder Isaac, this is your last chance!” Isaac looked up, shook his head and yelled out "The Lord will provide for me, you go and help the others". The helicopter turned and hovered off in search of others and with that Isaac was swept off the roof and quickly drowned in the swift current. Isaac found himself at the feet of the Lord Jesus. Awed to be in the presence of his Savior, Isaac asked Jesus, "Why did you let me drown Lord? I have been a faithful Christian all my life and followed you word, why, why did you not save me?" Jesus answered, "Isaac I sent you two boats and a helicopter, what more should I have done?" Like reaching for penguins, be sure to get in the boat when God sends it to you.
"The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men [and women] to do nothing."

Both wonderful stories of inspiration and hope.
What an amazing visual the penguin family created in my mind. I thank you both for making my day, one day later as I read these two. Please enjoy yours? |
