Not only do I like the MM cards because I get a plastic envelope to put the items in and a hard card with some instructions AND a link to a site that shows basic tricks, but the last batch of cards I got are stiffer (but not too much stiffer) than previously, so they last longer as demos.

To me, it just looks more professional to show them the package with everything in it, than handing them the box of cards and the TCM packet separately. I also put the package into a small T-shirt bag from Sams (2000 for $12)and tie the top. I KNOW I KNOW… pitch guys have done it the other way for centuries…and I’m just an upstart. However….

The one problem I have with MM cards is they are not collated. When Loftus was out of cards and some of us had to use MM cards, David Walker told me that he ALWAYS opened every box and collated them BEFORE selling them. That precluded having to explain what is necessary to make them work. He told me, “I’d rather be making another pitch than explaining.”

Since I use the plastic on the box for another trick, that didn’t work for me. So I have another sheet in a sheet protector with a pic of the hard card and 3 lines of simple instructions. I show it (don’t give it) to them and have the kid who bought the cards read the instructions. It takes less than a minute to do it. Generally, if an adult buys the cards, I just say, ”Read the instructions” as he’s leaving. I’m into my 4th gross of these cards and so far I have had NO ONE come back because the cards aren’t collated.

I’ll be happy to send anyone an e-mail with a pic of my package and sheet I use. I also put a small strip of paper in the package with a link to some You-Tube videos of a guy doing close-up instruction of Svengali tricks. I’ve had kids come back a show or 2 later and say, “I really loved to watch the videos because I learned the tricks so quickly.” I hand ‘em the TCM and say, “Show me!

They love to show off! Smile

You are right about the packaging, especially in today's consumer aware audience - I just came across this area and was pleasantly surprised, I have pitched items for 47 years now - there was a time when the whole value of the ding was that the "mark" got to meet the magician and learn the secret in the oral tradition - they would pay, they would learn, and get me a beer - now of days they just have not got the time for the personal touch, they want to get it and go, so I have not bothered with it much any more - I am not a vending machine - e
