Fred Anderson had an idea and an old radio in the shape of a old style Carson-esque microphone. Kevin Detweiler had the tools and the talent to bring Fred's idea to life, and I scraped up the cash to take the whole thing away from Fred.

Meet "Rock" The Mike...a great start to my novelty figure collection.

Ha! What fun! That "Carson-esque" mic you're talking about is an RCA 77 DX ribbon mic. THE classic broadcast mic from the 1940's to mid-sixties. It'd cost somewhere over two thousand bucks to get a functioning reconditioned one these days...and even at that, it couldn't talk back to you!

I have a mic exactly like that and it's actually a radio, seriously. It looks pretty authentic, but it's plastic and could be fairly easily converted into a puppet. I found it on e-bay for about 15 bucks. Philip's right, the real ones are very expensive.

What a coincidence, I finished posting a question about old style microphones on my topic Figure Table, and came back to see this post;

Great minds think alike….

Lee Wolfson from Florida makes these talking microphones as well. He had one at the conVENTion this past summer and sold it right away. It is a great little figure.

I like it a lot, Dave. And is that a talking coffee can next to it? Smile

I'll be eager to see what type of routine you come with for Rock.

Hey Bob,

The coffee can holds my change that I save to buy talking microphones.

Rock's character is already developing, and let's just say he won't shut up about what music he is playing in his "stacks and stacks of the greatest wax" and last night he told me to "get ready to rummmmbbbbblleee!"

Thanks to everyone else that has commented on my latest acquisition.

Now I just have to start filling up the coffee can again.

Dan,

I remembered the one that was at VH last year, but for the life of me I could not remember that Lee was the one who had it. I remember that we were all sitting out in the lobby of the Drawbridge when he was giving us a demo. It was really cool.
