Martyjacobs,
Yes DB is IMHO an improvement of the normal way to do the Doc Haley effect. I feel the values could be changed to do a black jack effect, but that is just me. I tweeked some looney tune cards so bugs bunny and tweety bird change places. great for kids...rabbits hop, birds fly.... Some magician's use doves, some use rabbits, but I use both.. |

I assumed Paul credited Bannon as the inspiration for Psychedelic Foursome (I don't own the trick).

(But, SD is the SAME as an old Joe Riding trick called Topsy-Turvy-Twister) This may be, but I don't think Bannon copied the effect. I'm sure he would have mentioned it if he was aware of it (as he credits others in his releases). Do you have a reference for the Joe Riding effect out of interest? I don't consider Bullet Party to be a copy of Triple Kick Monte. The trick is a valid variation based heavily on Paul's (excellent) work. I do get very tired of these silly feuds between magicians. Life is far too short for this kind of thing. Marty |

The killer observation test is a very nice effect, it doesn't end clean for the audience to inspect but then again, personally I think that if your audience always want to inspect things then maybe something is being done not overly smoothly, or a a little bit suss.

I don't consider it a copy either, or based heavily on it since JB admits to have been working on it over twenty years, they are both heavily based on the same source material, Elmsley's Four Card Trick. Placed side by side there are a number of differences. I have used and quite like Paul's routine, Bullet Party is a very recent aquisition so I haven't had time to work on it, if they were the same I'd immediately be able to go from one to another but that's not the case. One ends with three cards one ends with four, but both end clean. Paul's mulicolour back endings to packet tricks may well have been sparked by John's Royal Scam and Spin Doctor, but apart from the Joe Riding effect mentioned you can also find a Twisting The Aces effect with multiback finish in Mentzer's Packet Trick book that's been available since the seventies (a Vic Trabucco routine). I recall Joe had one called "Over Ther Rainbow" which had a multiple coloured backs finish also so the idea for this type of climax is decades old. But that doesn't mean people should stop experimenting with these types of routines, and it's obvious the experimentation can still bear fruit. It does however, make sense to check out some of the source material from time to time. |

Paul, I totally agree. I like Paul's Triple Kick and I like John's Bullet Party. But aside from a few similar images, they are very different routines in terms of handling and effect.
