I understand that "Perfect Light" by Yigal Mesika is the best. I'm not speaking from personal experience as I don't use match pulls, but I've read very positive reviews of this version.

i have three of the match pulls Larry suggested. there great and are surefire. just make sure the paper is changed every 5 uses and buy replacements made for the gimmick. also, the self striking matches work best in my oppinion

I believe DJ is referring to strike anywhere matches. As for the match pull a reliable one is simple to make. I was making them when I was 12 years old and never had any problems with the matches not lighting. You just need a folded square of cardboard with matchbook striker strips glued in. Insert your matches, wrap a rubberband around it for pressure, and pin it in your coat. When you need the lit match all you have to do is pull.

I have played around with nearly all of the match pull and found them too unreliable at the best of times.
I tryed the rubberband around the striker board but it is unreliable also.
I have designed my own gimmick that I can honestly say is awesome and I have had a few magicians here in Australia test it for me and have sat down with friends and we have tryed it hundreds of time and it has never failed beleve it or not.
it can be made from basic supermarket purchased item and when seen you would see why it is so reliable.
I have put together a basic booklet witch I have sold 30 or so but have decided to create a more marketable version of the booklet.

If anyone is interested please contact me and we can work something out!

Note, the strike anywhere match has stopped be produced in the U.S. I did a search on this and found the match manufactures stopped makeing them. I guess for child safety.

The match manufactures do not have web sites. You can only contact them by phone or mail.

I found a story on line of a guy who had to purchase several gross of strike anywhere matches from the manufacturer in order to get them. So as he said he has a lifetime supply.

So they have them but only with a lot of trouble and expense.

But in Canada, they're everywhere. Just a thought.

Hiya, Wmheg:

I bought several gross of the strike-anywhere matches when I was prototyping a new match pull a couple of years back (for some reason, my grandma called these "Lucifer" matches when I was a kid).

At any rate, I sealed them quite well in what I thought were air-tight containers. They were not. Now the remaining grosses of matches light either 'slow' or not at all when struck.

Okay, total losses were less than 10 bucks, but for those who find strike-anywhere matches, I'd keep 'em in a warm place with low humidity!

I have an old match pull made out of metal. It has a hinged panel with a spring that pushes it against the top plate. You put a piece of striking paper in grooves on each plate and put the head of a match into the opening (by holding open the hinged plate). You then pin this in your coat. When you pull out the match it rubs against the strike paper and lights. It works pretty well. I have found that holding the match at an angle when pulling works best.

Hi Michael,

I would like to see what you have. Why don't you make it into an ebook (e.g., a PDF) and sell it online?

As far as the strike anywhere matches go, you can still find them if you look. I found a bunch at a local grocery store next to the charcoal section. For some reason when they sell out they keep getting more.

I have purchased three types of match pulls including the Tony Clark style. The most reliable I have found was on Ebay. Bought 3 for $5. The guys name was magic Ian. If you can't find them on there, PM me. They work 100%.

Yigil Mesika's match pull is very good. Change the strike strip every performance and use 2 Kitchen sized safety matches taped together at the base and you'll have nearly a sure thing. However you still should sew in a back-up. Always have a back up and a lighter in case you need it.

Hi,

I have created a new match pull you can build yourself from material purchased from any supermarket, general store or Office supply Depot.

I works every time and you can make many pulls on a shoe sting budget.

Works every time.

I have put it into CD-Rom format and is called "D.I.Y. Match Pull"

Tim Ellis and Sue-Anne Webster will have some at the upcoming US lecture tour, so if you catch 1 of those you can get your hand on this great new method.

$15.00 US

Else you can contact PM me on here and we can work something out for you!
