I'm trying to locate photos and locations of the graves of famous magicians. If anyone is willing to help me on this adventure I would appreciate it.
I have a site devoted to this called http://www.deadconjurers.blogspot.com/ So far I have grave photos/info on: Hofzinser, Kratky Bashik, Dr. James Elliott, George Melies, Harry Collins, Erik Jan Hanussen, Joe Karson, Dante, Devant, J.Gordon Whitehead, William Henry Davenport. Those are up on the site already. In addition I have photos of: both Blackstones, Houdini, Hardeen, Bess Houdini, Kellar, Thurston, Robert Houdin, Lafayette, Jack Gwynne, TNelson Downs, John Henry Anderson, Bartolomea Bosco, Richiardi Sr. and Signor Blitz. This second grouping has not yet been added to the site. If anyone has photos that I could use with information on the location of the graves I'd appreciate it. Plus I'll gladly give you photo credit. Best way is to email me at carnegiemagic@aol.com Thanks, Dean Carnegie |

Dean,
I have not forgotten the Raymond photo I promised you. Been busy with the furnace out. Will look this week or go and take another one now that the snow is off. Richard

There are many in Colon, Michigan. I have some photos, as many other magicians probably do, too. Some of the photos that I have are of markers that were in place before the magician actually died, but have since passed away.
I believe Will Nichol (Nicola) is buried in Monmouth, Illinois. His brother, Charles (Von Arx) may be there, too. Monmouth is about 50 miles from me, so I may be able to check that in the future. I think Lester Lake is buried in Indiana. Rick Fisher from FAB Magic would probably know. Bill Neff is in Indiana, Pennsylvania.

Dean… quite a while ago (work boredom time), I entered grave sites for different magicians names and eventually Google came up with a site that listed different entertainer’s final resting spots, if I remember correctly some had photos.
Hope that helps, Bruce |

Nicola and his brother are both bauried in Monmouth, Illinois. I believe the Abbott Website has many photos of the gravesites on it. If not I think there is a video tour of the site.

I visited the grave of Bartolomeo Bosco the first time I was in Dresden. In spite of the split in Germany, the German magicians managed to maintain his gravesite very well.

Ha! A guillotine on Lake's headstone, that's got to cause some double-takes when people walk by that! How nice of ya'll to make sure he was appropriately honored.

The Colon, Michigan Cemetary is, without a doubt, and in all due reverance and respect, the one, true 'Elephant's Graveyard" of Magicians in the U.S.
Serious students of the art of magic are truly amazed, humbled and forever touched once they visit there. R.I.P. to those who have gone before us. And, due yourslef a favor, visit Colon, Michigan at least once in your life if you really love magic. There is no place like it in the World. |

Here's the Colon cemetery tour by Karrell Fox (circa early 90's) and the current tour by Al the Only (done each year during the annual Abbott Get Together in August).
