It has been reported on the Thayer Magic website that Dr. Albo has passed away.
This is a great loss to magic and collectors in particular.

I agree Michael. Too many magic personalities have passed away this year.

I am so sad to hear of his passing but am glad that his suffering is past. To his family, I can only offer my deepst sympathy and respect for their husband and father.
I am so thankfuly that I had a chance to thank him personally at NECOM this year. He was so upset by recent things and I told him his legacy was secure. No one or anything could take that away from him. I talked to Marge as I wanted to make a feather flower rose arrangment to send him. One thing led to another and it was only recently that I had time to complete the roses. My wife got the rest of the materials to arrange them in a top hat with a magic wand. I had made a similar arrangemnt for Jerry Conklin. I like to give roses and thanks to friends while they can enjoy them but in this case I guess it was not meant to be. I am certain that it will be one of the more uniquet arrangements for his funeral. Rest in Peace dear friend. Thank for you for simply being you. Richard

This is so sad. Bob and I go back to before magic when he was the team Dr. for the San Francisco Seals Hockey Team and I was the team photographer. We didn't know each other were into magic for about a year, then we met at a magic gathering and were totally surprised.
My wife and I had spent a lot of time with the Albos, stayed at their house in Piedmont and the one in the Napa Valley. They have a great family and our sincere condolences to them all. Bob had been suffering for some time and to see an ex All-American athlete unable to walk was truly sad. May be be resting in peace.

Bob ws a superior human being. Besides preserving magic history with his books,at times he donated his medical services to magicians in need. His passing is sad and he will always be remembered.

Doc Albo was one of our great ones. I treasure having known him and being able to have spend some time with he and Marge. They both have given much to magic. My thoughts and prayers are with Marge and the family.
This past two months has been brutal for magic ... |

I never got to meet Robert, but we had talked once or twice on the phone, and from correspondence he seemed like a real gentleman I am one of the subscribers of his classic magic series from the very first volume, so MANY years, and his latest work on Thayer is magnificent! They fill a special spot in my library.
His contribution to the art of magic will not be forgotten. Sorry to say goodbye Robert! Blair

It is very, but very sad to inform our Magic ccommunity that Dr Robert J Albo, passed away this am.
One of my closest friends, mentor and personal advisor. I am so very glad to have visited and spent time with him last November! I am so very fortunate to have met him and share the good and the bad , mostly the good, for over 30 years. He was not only a brilliant surgeon and sports Doctor, but a great influence in my personal life. Not only will he be survived by his beautiful family, but also for all his contributions in the Medical , professional Sports and Magic Collecting fields. I will sorely miss my friend, but he will always be close to my heart. He is now underway to the football and basketball fields in heaven to watch after those players, as he did most of his life and continue searching for that unusual and rare piece of Magic apparatus. |

Dr. Robert Albo was great human being. I know there will be accolades about him being a doctor and collector, but to me, he was a fine and decent man. If you met him just once, you would know what I mean.
I will miss you my friend, Kevin

I only got to know Doc Albo briefly by seeing him at WMS every year. In a field that's full of Docs, but very few who went to medical school, I was surprised when Pete told me a few years ago that he was in fact an actual Dr. As Bill said, the last 2 months have been really brutal for our community.

Although he was only an aquaintence, it was a delight to know such a delightful, caring and generous person. I never saw his collection of apparatus or read any of his books. But I know of one famous magician who wouldn't be with us today were it not for Dr. Albo's surgical ability - which was given out of his love for magic and others.
