Over the years the place where kid parties were held have moved around. Some are essentially gone: skating rinks, bowling alleys, higher end county clubs, restaurant theaters, movie theaters with a party room, etc. Others have had changing rules: schools, churches, public parks, zoos, etc. Lawn party opportunities are geographically diverse.
Home sweet home parties have changed. For security reasons, gated communities have party rules. Where are your kid parties held NOW! Bob Sanders Magic By Sander |

I'm still booking parties in all of the locations listed. We have a dozen ice rinks and indoor sports complexes throughout the city and all of our larger theater complexes have party rooms. Then there are the jump house joints, drop-off child care centers, after school and year-round track-out programs and mall kids' clubs. Two of our local comedy clubs host morning puppet and magic theaters two days a week for preschool families with a tag-on birthday party option. My gated community clients generally host their parties in the community clubhouse.

Most of the kids parties that I do are for middle class people who have parties at home for about twenty children. The gated communities around here are full of wealthy senior citizens.

No gated communities in Montreal. Most of my kid bday shows are in people's homes as well.

80% of my BP¡¦s are in homes. I get quite a few in community buildings of a condo or home association. No gates or security there.

I also must say that 90% of my birthday parties are performed still in the client's home. The other 10% is at fire halls or banquet facilities that they can rent out or they borrow from a church etc.

AL: lol yep very true. Day cares will always be gated and you have to get them to buzz you in and such. Can be a pain pending how much you bring in. We also have gated communities for senior homes and occassionally when we have done some richer neighborhoods. Do not run into them that much these days.

This is very encouraging to me because it shows that the good things in life for a child happen at home. Happiness and home belong together.
How much of this is a desire for privacy and how much of it is for economic, control or better facilities reasons? Of course, the ranch is a gated community because of the horses. However, raising children in a compound (gated community) is relatively foreign to me. I am finding older children with families of their own coming home to live with older parents. But for magic birthday parties that should improving funding for a magician. Grandparents provide. There's no place like home. Please keep up the good news. Bob Sanders Magic By Sander |

I've done 1 year old bday parties in a country club ball room, but very few parents can afford a five digit party for their little ones. Posted: Feb 22, 2011 10:54pm Just to make it clear, the figure I received for the country club bday party was three digits, and the whole party's cost was five digits.

I am just about like everyone else here 80% home and 20% Rec. center/community room. I have noticed recently that some of the larger HOAs are requiring insurance and all sorts of paperwork to do shows in their community halls. Hello new world order?.

Parties have mostly been in birthday parties at homes usually. And I usually do shows at certain schools in my city.

Interesting...the majority of my private parties are at venues outside of the home. I'd roughly estimate around a 60/40% split. I wonder if it's my co-op market approach and target audience that makes the difference? Like Chad, I've also noticed more frequent requests for add'l insured certificates from off-site party locations. I even had one city recreation facility require a police background check before allowing the client to hire me for a private party scheduled there. Times are indeed changing.
