There's quite a few of these fake documentary or "found footage" movies out there. Some I think are terrible (Blair Witch Project) or just ok (Paranormal Activity).
Here's a few I thought were pretty good: The Last Exorcism Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon Quarantine Diary of the Dead Cloverfield Any suggestions for other good ones or ones to stay away from? |

Not a fan of Cannibal Holocaust, myself, but your mileage may vary.

I'm so glad you didn't like Blair Witch. I was buying into the hype and by the end of that movie I wanted to kill that girl. Terrible movie.

Blair Witch was a milestone in mockumentary horror... I think it's brilliant.
Also loved Behind The Mask, and there's a GREAT one called Home Movie if you can find it.

I really regret seeing Blair Witch in the cinema. The hype destroyed it, I saw it in Screen One at the local multiplex, had bored teenagers behind me giving their delightfully insightful critique. Wish I had seen it first time at home. BUT... I still love it.

Blaire Witch was brilliant in its initial presentation. Once it was known what it was, it lost its effectiveness and fell flat.
One I want to see really focuses more on the "mock" aspect, Reel Zombies.

I had a lot of friends that knocked Blair Witch so I arranged to have a screening in a birch forest in the middle of nowhere starting at midnight. It was on Beaver Island (Off the northwest coast of Michigan) in the off season. Apart from my 20 guests, there were approximately eight other people on the whole island.
Watching that movie with a massive forest of white tree trunks at your back, a sliver of a moon showing and almost complete silence might change your mind about it. A passing deer peeking around the projection screen at the halfway point really put it over the top. We had to stop the film for almost ten minutes to make sure everyone was back in their seats! It is all about atmosphere. Gwyd |

Love your story gsidhe, I don't think I would attend that screening to be honest - buk-buk-bukaaaaw First time I watched The Exorcist I was 17 and alone in a little cottage out in the country (my mum and dad's house)... I had to stop the tape halfway, switch all the lights back on and make a cup of tea before steeling my nerve, switching all the lights off and hitting play again. That night I was a 17 year old atheist who took the family bible to bed (No it didn't take a foxhole for me!) |

Glen and Michael loved Blair Witch! Proves two of my points.....
Watching it in the woods would have been cool. Anyone ever seen The Milpitas Monster? |

Never said I loved it Santa. It was essentially nutured when it was commercialized out of it's original element/presentation.

Just tell me this, did you want to sternly speak to the woman at the end of the movie for running around and screaming in the woods disturbing wildlife?

The Fourth Kind.
That one almost got me believing we were being invaded. Dang that Milla Jovovich! Luckily there was the Net...

Meh. I was camping every weekend for Ren Faire when Blair Witch came out. We even ran around screaming "Miiiiiiiike!!!" and hanging little stick figures in the trees. It was more funny than scary.

I liked Paranormal Activity 2 better than the 1st one. Well, the ending sucked, but it was ok before that.
Still having trouble remembering others in that style that I liked. Diary of the Dead was already mentioned and it was probably my favorite of those.

Zombie Diaries might be one. It has been a while since I have seen it though.
A direct from text adaptation : The Strange Case Of Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde Starring Mickey Rooney in his final role.
