Setup for a show takes me about as long as the show itself. Folding silks, packing canes etc. this also includes some time on the computer printing a receipt and Birthday card. This and the drive to a show are all the "meditation" I need. I will have to try out the idea of taking a few deep breaths before entering the arena. Part of why we get paid is out ENERGY!!!
I can't imagine doing 4 or 5 shows in a day. That's easily a 14 hour day. How do you fit it all in one day?? Do parents want you at 11 AM or 7 PM??? Joe |

That's no doubt the way to go - bigger shows, less often, paying much more cash! In my opinion, that beats dozens of smaller shows which will rarely end up being as cost effective and profitable. Although the setting up and break down with lots of equipment can be tiresome, I actually don't mind it at all, and much prefer to relax and set up with plenty of time, than to rush from venue to venue all day through traffic.
iwillfoolu, if your set-up time is as long as your performance, I'm left wondering what on earth you've put in your show? I can't think of a single effect off the top of my head that takes as long to set up as it does to perform. Still, each to his own. A great meal can take hours or days to prepare, yet it will be eaten in minutes. As long as what you deliver, makes you and your audiences happy, you won't go wrong. |
