Anyone remember that rubber chicken you purchased years ago collecting dust in your closet? Well Floyd Collins speaks up on how to dust it off and start using it as comedy in your show. His book, "Chicken Scratches" explains all kinds of details of using several types of rubber chickens as comedy. I just got finished reading it and noticed it covers all corners of using a rubber chicken from comedy, magic, mentalism, close-up, stage, history, etc.
Whether you are a magician, comedian or mentalist, this book is for you. I never knew there were so many ways of entertaining an audience with a chicken until I read his book. I read his book again and again. It passed with flying colors. On a scale of 1 to 10 I am going to have to give it a 10. I am sure all of you will too after reading the book. After you finish reading it, and want to thank me for bringing it up, I do not mind how you thank me, in the open or send me a PM. I am most happy to spread the word to all of you about Floyd's book. Always remember, "Magicians helping Magicians." http://stores.lulu.com/thecenterstage |

I'm gonna keep this brief but informative because I don't like lengthy typing unless I'm A.) getting graded B.) getting paid or C.) feuding. And neither is happening.
I finally got a chance to read through this ebook! Let me first say that ever since reading the first post, I was really excited to read this. I have been very interested in extraneous helping props such as Mind Reading Goose/Orange and Timmy Toilet Paper. Once I realized there were rubber chicken routines available, I jumped right on board. This 54 page ebook covers all the bases. It says EVERYTHING you'd want to know about the subject of rubber chicken mind reading magic. Now, I realize that's a narrow market, but the idea is novel, not widely used by any means, and has immense potential as shown in this book. Floyd has taken the time to compile WONDERFUL information about rubber chicken magic. There are a ton of facts and a lot of history on rubber chickens in magic in this ebook. He has employed the help such folks as Pete Biro and Dan Harlan to help him in creating the most well rounded education on RCM (rubber chicken magic) possible. He even includes all the routines using RCM out there. Now let's get on to what we all want to know about: the routines. You get two full routines in this ebook in addition to the wealth of knowledge inside. One is a stage piece from Pete Marucci (who inspired and sparked the interest of Floyd) and another is Floyd's walk around routine. Marucci's routine is good and has a lot of room for a performer to add their own jokes, lines, and touches. Floyd's routine is a great walk around piece that is funny. He mentions a few variations, I enjoyed the gimmickless one the best. Floyd goes on to talk about scripting your own routine which is a very informative and insightful look at how to script in general. After that, Floyd writes about other ideas using chickens for mentalism (mostly for walkaround.) Many of these ideas were pretty generic, but his suggestion on using a dog tag collar was inspiring! On the flip side, his ideas on non mentalism ideas were really cool. What I was hoping to get out of this ebook was a solid routine I could take to stage. That's not exactly what I received. I was hoping he would detail his work with his stage RCM routine Cheeka, but it was too good to put in the book I suppose (I need to get the DVD now!) What we do get is an amazing education on RCM, a good stage piece that allows the performer to customize it and a great walkaround piece. Also, a plethora of ideas for using rubber chickens and a detailed brief lesson on scripting RCM. All-in-all, this book is worth the money you will pay for it and more with the ideas and EVERYTHING else. So much to talk about. I hope I did a good job covering the gist of it and hopefully got you interested. PEACE. I gotta go make a RCM routine. Wow that was a lot more than I thought I wrote. |

Thank you Dynamike for sharing this. I got the ebook and read the whole thing last night. It is truly a refreshing touch! I've been performing some of the effects written on the last part of the book and I couldn't imagine how fun it would be to add a psychic rubber chicken on the act.
Much thanks! Definitely a good resource! |

I think it is out of stock right now http://www.magicenhancer.com/Cheeka.html
Posted: Mar 6, 2011 11:27am I made some contacts. I found out what is stalling the DVD, Cheeka. It was a limited run and Floyd is waiting for Magic Enhancer to get the stock back up. At least there is no problem with the book, Chicken Scratches. |

I will not be purchasing the book because it does not fit my style, but let me tell you, Floyd Collins has helped me grow tremendously as a magician. He has taught me to think through every move I make in a show and establishing a logical and clear reason for everything I do.
So, while I cannot give a comment on the book, I can recommend the author. He has been very generous with his time in working with me, and I appreciate it greatly. To this day, whenever I structure a show, it is based on something I first learned from Floyd and later explained by Dan Harlan: The Triple Trilogy. If comedy magic is your thing and a rubber chicken will fit into your show, then I suggest you check out Floyd's work. Also, if you are looking for a confabulation routine, check out is MovieTime. Just finished reading this book this afternoon and it is fantastic. Although clearly aimed at rubber chickens, several of the effects could be used with any psychic animal. I agree with the above reviews (which I didn't see until after I read the book). I would only add that I love the idea for a chicken bending a spoon with their mind.

Loved this book. Performed the Mind Reading Chicken as Seymore the Psychic Seagull ( He didn't like being called a chicken) The kids loved it. Used the chicken that screams when you squeeze it. Adults loved the puns even more. Real groaners.
