I was having lunch in the restaurant near my office yesterday and noticed that the restaurant had no coloring books for the kids to color in to keep them busy in view of the fact that their parents were ignoring them.

The occurrence triggered in my mind an opportunity for advertising my ventriloquist services.

I am thinking of producing a four page coloring books with my advertising on the front cover to leave in restaurants advertising my show; booking children shows will give me the additional experience in front of an audience for practice.

I would supply the crayons that come four in a box and place my advertising on that with labels as well.

Anyone have feedback on this idea?

BTW anyone else interested in also producing a coloring book for advertising, post here and I’ll share my thoughts with you.

Buzz,

It sounds like a brilliant idea to me.

Just now going to your web site I see you are already booked until September 2011. I'm not sure you need to advertise.

GREAT IDEA!! Also try posting your vent services on your local Craig's List which is usually a free posting (IF you haven't already thought of that since you are always thinking about vent and ways to promote it:o)

You will also have to provide 4 or 6 crayons with each coloring book. Does that run the cost to high?

Thanks Capt;

I did think of posting on Craigslist, but that may be more than I can handle.

I am advertising, to get my name out, but not accepting work.

Today I am not ready to do a show; not every customer at the restaurant will have a need for a ventriloquist, but my name will start to be advertised, as in my web site.

It was one of the reasons I wanted to talk to FunnyClown, to see if he could use some work, but he seems to be very busy now and doesn’t need any extra bookings.

I tried Craig's list and all I got was a ton of Spam or something like it.

You have a good point; I did try Craigslist for selling something I was no longer using.

All I received was low ball replies and emails from women with names like Candy, asking if I was lonely and needed company.

I forgot about that, thanks for reminding me.

I think the coloring book is a great idea. You should also concider a Google Ad Words advertisement. That's a great way to get your website seen by many potential clients.

Mike;
As I gain more experience, I will expand my advertising.; now I am just looking to get my name out as a ventriloquist.

And asking the more experienced vents, what is good, so I don’t waste my time.

Thanks for thinking about me

I am almost finished with the production of my new Ventriloquist coloring book and have found a children’s store in San Francisco that will allow me to place the books and crayons in the store to keep the little tikes busy while the parents shop.

The time is getting near for me to perform... the clock is ticking

Thank you,

Can you think of anything I can add to make the book more fun for kids.

I don’t want to fill it with advertising and ruin the simplicity of the book, and I am not to the point for parents calling me.

I just want to get my name out for now.

Coloring book?
How about a line drawing of you with your figure...to color?
Or, for that matter, how about your figure being the "mascot" of the book featured in (nearly) every exercise in the book? You may not be selling your act yet, but you COULD keep your figure (and your name) top of mind.

That's a cool idea. Have a caricature made of you and Dan, and use that as a picture to color.

Philip;

You have good points; I am planning on going to fisherman’s wharf here in San Francisco and having a street artist do characters of me and Dan.
Unfortunately the weather here has been cold and raining.

I am going to use your idea and have the artist make a drawing of Dan alone at the time he does both of us and incorporate the drawing into the book; not in every picture, I don’t want the kid to tire of drawing the same representation over and over again.

This is a work in progress; I plan on changing drawings as suggestions such as yours are presented to me.
I am also thinking of expanding the coloring book for restaurants by intergrading the restaurants children’s menus on the back page in place of the current jokes.

I will go full blown in upscale parts of the city when I am prepared to perform; which will be very soon; then when I have perfected my craft, I’ll be going after the corporate events.

Thank you Funnyclown;

It's a work in progress and this is the first version.
