As long as one is willing to 'balloon', people will be willing to wait. There will always be "just one more".
My contracts always specify my ending time and anything over that is handled on a pro rata basis, with a thirty minute minimum. And, as for cutting off a line, I would never let a guest handle that onerous task. For a number of years, I have used stage managers to take care of the cut. And at small family events, the client is the one who cuts the line. After all, it's their money..... |

In my busking days when I was also doing street shows, I would twist for tips between my shows. It was great because there would be a giant line for balloons, and when it was time to do a show I would announce that after the show balloons would continue. Even more people would gather for the show (and then line up for balloons as well!). It was kind of this viscious cycle of crowd build-up. I found it one of the best ways for me to go home with VERY fat hats. By busking this way at certain festivals I was working in my earlier days, there was never really any time of day I didn't have a big crowd. As far as leaving... yikes. lol. Do your best to say you have to go, and leave them wanting more.

Keith, I used to do that to. Balloon between shows. But YIKES! I got really tired.
