Saw his lecture/show in Watertown, MA a few months ago. Will travel to Salem to see him again.
I love the way he sets up his audience - every movement and gesture for a purpose. His is the best pure illusion with coins that I have ever witnessed. cp

Mickey taught a lot more at the Salem lecture than he did in Watertown. Still everyone had a great time at both places. He did not tip the SUV but he passed out chips and taught everyone an easy coin vanish that was very deceptive. He also absolutely killed everyone with his dice matrix. Then he did it slowly showing the moves. For some reason, when he did again up to speed, still no one could follow it. Everyone had a great time and there were a lot of laughs. I got home very late and hate to get up early for work so there was a price to be paid, but it was worth every yawn.

I have been to several of his lectures including his lecture/show in Salem last week. I seem to be following him around New England when he gives lectures. He lives here when not in Vegas.
In fact, he did tip more than usual - on a few basic but important sleights that he uses a lot. He also fully explained a card and coin routine that was brilliant and right from his bag of "go to" sleights. Everytime I watch him live, I have a greater appreciation for how he conditions his audience, and how just about every little gesture he uses is for a larger purpose - pointing, gesturing, hunching his shoulders as he sends a dollar through his head to the other side, dipping into his jar of silver dolars and adding a little sound to the mix with his mouth - and he makes it all work so well. He shows me an image of a coin that convinces that I know where it is and then I learn of course that it was only the image...ugh! He is a very skilled illusionist - if you ever have the chance to see him perform live, treat yourself to something special. I learn a little more every time I see him perform. "Always let 'em see the open palm and point up a little...." Thanks Mickey!

I have been really thinking about Mickey’s dice matrix because it was really bothering me. Some of us thought he was using five dice but he finished the routine showing us he only had four dice in his hand. He also did the trick surrounded. If he had been using an extra die why didn’t anyone see it. Something like this had to have some bad angles if the extra die was used. Anyone have any thoughts on this? I’m going crazy trying to figure this one out. Maybe we could talk him into releasing it on dvd.

Mickey knows what people see and what they don't see. He has an acute sense of mis-direction. The magicians who only seak to learn only his exceptional ROV are missing out a lot.
Thanks for sharing your experience, Mickey.

Have to agree Mr. O, Mickey has this stuff down to a science. Most magis could not operate so openly with how they present magic. I have been in the circle with Mickey when he happened to perform in a restarant and watched him dazzle people all around him. This is powerful stuff from a truly unique worker. And happy to hear of his Dice Matrix routine, as this guy is a lot more than just coins, he's also very good with cards. But his real secret is just not in what you see but moreso in what & how you think. Always amazing!

Thanks Jim. You really had us going with those great card tricks.
You are always ready to perform, anytime, anywhere. For those who don't know, Canaday is the President of Silent Mora Ring #122 here in Boston. His hard work and dedication help us all to grow as performers. He brings in top lecturers and even hands out homewwork assignments. This month, we present something new that we learned from a BOOK. No DVDs allowed. Jim is a great source of encouragment and a top cheerleader for magic. His Magic Portal is loaded with useful links and information... http://mysite.verizon.net/jhcanaday/ As for Mickey, I've had the opportunity to observe him for several days at a distance of about 6 inches. STILL can't figure it out! Mickey has the unique combination of extraordinary speed, absolute consistency and totally disarming psychology. He's like one of those piano virtuosos that come along once in a lifetime. It's highly doubtful that anyone else could approach his level. Constantly practicing, his new material will blow your socks off! He has a vast repertoire that uses no coins at all. The first thing you see when you step into his studio is a Zig Zag and a vent dummy, the first clues as to the depth of his magic. Mind-boggling pure entertainment!

Jim's card work is Sensational!!! He was doing a card trick and he transformed the deck into a solid block like a brick.
Mickey Silver's Retention Vanish is amazing!!! He can do so many different effects with it. It doesn't look as good on video as it does up close in person. His Retention Vanish is one of the best in the business. Paul |
