Anyway, Bladerunner can't be improved on, so they're wasting their time.

Bladerunner is one hell of a Movie. Thanks for reminding me of this Movie.

I agree with the wasting time comment, but I think that advances in biotech (e.g. cloning) may conceivably make it more relevant.

Agreed. The more realistic the possibities of making "replicants", the more relevant it becomes. But that speaks to the original film, not to any remake or prequel.

Anyway, I'm not against remakes per se. Just remakes of masterpieces. And even then I wouldn't disagree if the remake was somehow an artistic retelling of the original in an original way. You know, kind of like Hendrix's version of "All Along the Watchtower". Works for me.

On a side note: it's driving me crazy that I can't remember what it is, but surely it must have been one of those 80s comedies I was referring to in another thread. Whatever it is, it was a remake made of a classic, and my first thought was, "why in the world would anyone want to remake that?" It can't just be about the money, can it?

I can just hear in my mind the DVD commentary of the Blade Runner prequel...Sharon Stone talking about how she got into her character to show a Rachel whose humanness projects through her replicantness, and how working with such a gifted and present leading man such as Leonardo [Dicaprio] taught her so very much about being in the now of spiritual oneness with all humanity....

In fairness, I thought Jet Li's "Fist of Legend" was at least as good as the Bruce Lee original. So remakes can be good. But then again, the Bruce Lee film was made for about 5 dollars in about 2 weeks, whereas Bladerunner...
