Hey Andre, thanks. I want to thank you right away before the great watcher of my ethics - Elliott - tells me what to do. Seriously, Andre, thanks, and I'm glad the books reached you all right. Best - Harry L.

Still trying Harry's HaLo cut. Top cards want to spread and fan off when I do it. I'm still working at it.

" In 1962, a landmark book on entertaining card magic appeared. Close-Up Card Magic by Harry Lorayne, published by Louis Tannen Inc. revolutionized the approach to card magic. Card tricks could be good, and could be entertaining. Not that they weren't before, but many of the texts on cards had been dryly written and of a more technical nature. Lorayne's emphasis was on presentation and routining. By now, Harry Lorayne is legendary for his teaching and writing ability, but even then, with his first book on card magic, he possessed an excellent eye for quality routines and the ability to create entertainment with card magic." - Sam Schwartz, Sam's The Magic of Sam Schwartz. Pg. 192.
In my opinion, anyone who is performing for the public in a close up setting with a pack of cards owes a debt to Mr. Lorayne. Sincerely, Rodney. |

Lads and ladies:
Don't just sit there, read my review of Harry's "Classic Collection, Vol 3" -- which is just out, pages still warm. Here: http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/viewt......m=110&14 A MUST for Lorayne fans in particular, and lovers of dynamic card magic in general. Special feature: his re-up of Dingle's Deceptions. It's interesting that I'm getting that kind of re-action re: my re-write of Dingle's Deceptions. That's not to say that the other stuff in that volume is getting great reactions/testimonials, etc - I just didn't think that that many were going to put in the practice time that's needed for the Dingle items. Hey Harry, I've never read any of your books. Which one would you recommend I start with. When it comes to cards, the only books I've read this far are Royal Road To Card Magic, Expert Card Technique and Card College 1-3. I haven't fully mastered what's in ECT, but I'd say I'm pretty good with everything in Royal Road and CC 1 & 2.. Basically I'm no card master, but I'm very interested in improving in card magic.

My favorite Harry Lorayne performance is his memory demonstration which is included as an hour long BONUS on one of his DVDs. What a showman! If you haven't seen it then do your best to do so. It's a masterclass in presentation.

Mike, I disagree with you. I had the original on my bed side table and was hoping that everybody would forget about this little book. I'm not sure I'll ever forget Harry for having unearthed yet another one his numerous masterpieces. I was hoping to remain one of the rare keepers of these very creative tricks: grrrrr
