"That's because there is no racism overseas." I have several friends that live in Germany for that very reason. My wife and I absolutely loved our experience in Stuttgart, Germany, twenty eight years ago while stationed there as American soldiers. I’ll never forget the experience of driving to Switzerland and attending the world-renowned Montreux Jazz Festival, it was a beautiful experience. NM

Jazz has been more popular in Europe since the late 1930's, and the tradition of American musicians moving to Europe because they can't get work here is old news. Not only is jazz more popular in Europe, but lots more white people go to Reggae, and blues concerts than black people do. Which just shows to go you that there are no rules when it comes to music.

There are a **** ton of awesome white jazz dudes.
Al DiMeola is one of the all-time greatest jazz guitarists.

No no no no no no....
White people imitate jazz. They do not make jazz. This is Jazz 101, and irrefutable. Al DiMeola is an imitator, and not the real thing. |

Apparently Oscar Peterson got a lot of criticism from fans and other musicians for working with Herb Ellis in the 50s.
Here's a short radio clip of OP talking about colour in jazz. John
