I'm somewhat new to ventriloquism, now over a year and a half, and I just bought another puppet. He is a funny looking rabbit puppet. (bubbasclownsupplies.com) I've written part of a routine that I think is funny, but now what? It is a routine for young children for an upcoming Easter show and of course there will be a lot of adults at the show. Do I just go with my routine and see what reactions I get and then make changes or what?
I plan on opening my vent/magic show with my rabbit and then going into a lot of rabbit/Easter/Spring related magic tricks, ending with the production of a real rabbit.
How long time wise do you think my rabbit vent routine should be?

Wizardpro..Not knowing how long your show will be, I would suggest no longer than 6-8 minutes in length. Kids, especially young kids, drift away from a routine after than length of time, I have found. Quick set up lines..and quick punchlines..and keep it moving. I would also suggest practicing in front of a mirror or video taping your act to see you the way an audience sees you.

A goo piece of material takes time and a lot of honing of the lines to make it smooth and polished. Practice as much as you can before the show and then see if you can get it on video to watch and hear the reactions.

You might want to consider "oracticing" your routine on some family members or good friends and see what kind of response and feedback they can give you as well. Just a thought:o)

Yea I plan on doing that CaptKirk. At this moment in time I'm lucky because I have 10, 6, 5, and 3 year old Grand-daughters. Of course it seems I can do nothing wrong as far as they are concerned.

Since this is your opening routine and you have a lot of other magic effects planned. I'd keep it short and snappy. maybe 3-4 minutes at most.
