TOKYO (Reuters) – Tokyo Electric Power said it had lost its ability to control pressure in some of the reactors of a second nuclear power plant at its quake-hit Fukushima facility in northeastern Japan. Pressure is stable inside the reactors but rising in the containment vessels, a spokesman said, although he did not know if there would be a need to release pressure at the plant at this point, which would involve a release of radiation. Nice...I was waiting for the turn of a natural disaster into the anti nuke thing...I thought it would take at least a day. Darn.

The bad thing is with the nuclear plants if something goes terribly wrong as a result of damage from the quake. They are more screwed in Japan then they are at the moment. Not just that but depending on how the wind carries the radiation it could greatly affect other areas as well. Depending on how much radiation could be leaked it could affect things here. Just what? not sure. It's something to be aware of I think. Of course I could be wrong.

My phone isn't working now ($13.50 in unemployment! Thanks to whoever developed this program!) or I'd call my dad and ask him about the plants there, he managed the cooling unit at the F one. He actually retired cuz of an earthquake in Japan. He was in a big pipe inspecting welds and a quake hit and the lights went out so the policy is you stay put until they get you or the lights are back on. He was in there five hours and developed a pretty good fear of enclosed places and retired pretty soon afterward. Man, if that happened to me I'd be found because they would want to stop the weeping.

I'd probably be screaming "Get me the *9@#%^ out of here I'm starting too glow!! Sorry that last part just hit me. the screaming was just a thought that I would be doing to hopefully make them get me out sooner.

My dad is a trip. He is smarter, funnier, braver, tougher, and everything else than I have ever been or ever will be. He was intimidating as heck growing up, terrifying actually, but he's really a good old guy. They have five plants 'damaged' though I wonder if it more a case of precaution. Let's see...

I was living a little too close to TMI when the accident happened there. And even closer when they started it back up.
I hope that with the trouble in Japan, and its possibilities, that everyone in the world who may be able to help is doing so. Santa can probably tell us better than anyone here what can really happen. It could be a good thing to know, but I don't want to have to find out. |

Hey! I took the daughter of the guy who designed the TMI cooling system out once in 1979! She was Mormon and made it clear I wasn't going to score, nice girl, never took her out again. The systems at TMI worked great by the way but the press made it out to be whackadoodle. TMI was not a GE plant. If I talk to my dad I'll ask him and he's not a cheerleader for the industry, he knows that radiation can be a bad deal and he always was careful to watch limits for the employees (that unit in Japan w/ the biggest problem is a GE design).
