Anyone who can give me any ideals for a safe version of burling hull's spirit writing using chemical chalk and wash. From my reasearch he calls for carbon tetrachloride which very toxic to be around. The effect I'm tring to create is the materialization of writing on a chalk board without the use of a flap

Carbon tet is also used in explosives so If your looking online or inquiring about it, you may get some eye brows raised.

Is it handheld or in a frame/stand covered? I just love black velvet.

it's on a frame and stand but not covered. It is at the start turned away from the crowd.

Docc Hilford produces some very nice slates that come with a special chalk and a special wash (readily available and mentioned by Volta in his slate work) can be used to make the writing disappear and then reappear before their eyes. His work is based on the same premise as Hull as previously mentioned. You should contact him. I own a set and love them. You can also use normal chalk and water to write on the set of slates when needed.

It's safe and my addition is you can HEAR the writing as it happens.
Fun stuff. A new slate set, Slades are being released in 2023. Powerful, real slate, wood, all 4 saide initialed, no gimmick! May be what you're looking for. Docc |
