Creating a new program to sell to resorts and hotels as a small, interactive program to be sold to guests on a profit share with the hotel. Anyone have any sage words on dealing with these folks?

I'm not sure what you're selling.

A program that does what? If you don't want to get too specific, get general.

Yep… based on your vague question (Which I understand) the first thing I would say, dealing with ANY market is to MAKE SURE they really, I mean REALLY (not only) WANT what-ever you are talking about BUT that they are REALLY willing to HIRE YOU for it. (Regardless of the financial arrangements!)

This is different than just a feeling or an idea, but real facts based on real proof ONLY so you are really serving them (and yourself and your family) with something that has the very best chance of working.

I’m sure you do… just sayin’.

As with any venue, find out what they want and sell it from the perspective. I assume from your post that you are expecting guests to pay admission and you will do a split of the door (correct me if I am wrong.) Is that something the resort does, or wants?

I will be entering my 20th season working resorts. The places I work do not look at shows as profit generators (at least, not directly.) They view shows as one more activity or feature to make their place look more attractive to guests. I don't have to sell my act to them any more, but if I did, the angle would be how it appeals to the largest segment of their clientele rather than how many dollars in door fees it brings in.

FInd their "hot button" and sell to it. That is the best way to sell any venue.

I too have regularly worked resorts and hotels, but am unclear to exactly what and the type of program you have in mind. Hotels and resorts have so many different types of programs, activities and events going on, some headlining or feature, other supportive, secondary or ambiance. Is this for adults, kids or the entire family? Is this s full-length performance, an on-going activity, or something in smaller segments presented multiple times throughout the day. Also by "program" are you meaning performance or some type of learning, educational or activity-type idea? More specifics to what you're asking will provide you more specific answers.

If it does not deal with "heads in beds" or a "rack rate" good luck.
