I heard about an interesting study on the radio saying that people who idealized their mates tended to be happier in their marriages than those who took a more "realistic" view of them. You would assume (or at least I would assume) that people who idealized their partners would be disappointed, but apparently they were more likely to be forgiving and understanding during a rough patch.
