I am refurbishing my zig zag cabinet. I was thinking of painting the background black. I thought it'd be more deceptive. I work at lots of nightclubs where the background is usually black curtains.

Does this sound OK?

No, I don't think so, you want them to see the box separate from the black walls, I would think.

Can you explain how you think this will improve on the illusion? I would be interested in you thoughts and explanation.

I have seen so many zig zags that are not deceptive at all. My cabinet is by Sommers and has a metal piece on the front in the middle that slides all the way over. It looks like the entire middle is gone.

Don't let your equipment "vanish" into the background curtains. Many stage or platform performers don't realize, until it's too late, that their prized apparatus can't be seen by the audience due to the
dense black background it's standing in front of. The lighting in many venues also is lacking in expertise (when it comes to magic) and can actually make the equipment "vanish" when you don't want it
to.
Nothing is truer than the incomprehensible, because the sum total of our knowledge consists of the fact that we know nothing. Our reality is an illusion. Thus illusion is reality-Punx

Can you post a pic of your Zig Zag here on the Café string. It would be helpful to see what you are speaking of. It is good that that the middle looks entirely gone. That is the major feature of the illusion.
