Although I grew up with magic, thanks to my father, I have never explored magic using rope. Among my father's magic, I have found a very long piece of red rope with a foam core, which looks like it could slide right out. Is anyone familiar with foam core rope? How do you prevent it from fraying once cut? I would like to cut off three pieces to use for practicing. Do you keep the foam in it or remove it to perform? I have tried to search the site for these answers but have been unsuccessful. I really appreciate the help.

Foam core, is used as is for cut and restored. The center stays in.
It is light weight and just as versatile as normal rope, except that it does not fold as nicely as cotton.

Welcome to the world of rope magic
Removing the core is optional depending on what you want to do with it. Some tricks work better with it in, and others work best with the core removed. GOOD LUCK HAVE FUN Good morning Ian

Of course, all foam core is not the same.
a little dip of white glue will seal the casing from fraying. If you pulled the foam from this rope, there would be little to do magic with.

Quote: Amazing book. I got a used copy for a song at the Austin Magic Auction and it has become my second most-used and learned from book of magic. Even better, it helped me to learn the basics of something out of a book, where in the past I personally hadn't been up to translating the printed word into working effects.

Personally, I own "professional rope routines" (world's greatest magic) and the material inside is astonishing. You can not imagine what you get for the price it has,it worths twice its price or more.I do not know abbott's encyclopedia and maybe it has more material but the dvd will help you unbelievably to perform the moves and in fact they are taught as routines which is very helpful.

If you like your rope magic in DVD form I recommend Daryl's three DVD set called expert rope magic made easy.

Thanks for your proposal
does it include different moves or built routines? |

It covers from the very basic rope moves to the very advanced rope routines. I have used some of the ideas that I learned from Daryl to make my own routines. It would be very dufficult for a magician to learn all that Daryl offers in one life time.

What Pete Biro said.......buy Abbotts' Encyclopedia of Rope Magic....

The Abbotts encycolpedia of rope tricks vol 1 is out of print, and you can only buy it used. The Stewart James encyclopedia of rope tricks is the one your link goes to, and it is availible for $50. They are both great reference books, but you are talking about oranges, while Pete, and Andrew are talking about apples. A real rope magic junky should have both books, and Daryl's three DVD set too.

I'd also strongly recommend Self-Working Rope Magic by Karl Fulves.
