So, based on that demo video, does it take about 15 - 20 minutes to present that illusion?
Just curious!

Not a fan of automated apparatus like this. It simply gives the magician nothing to do but stand around watching.
It's all in the reflexes.

I think you have taken your eyes of the ball here. Seems very much like a showcase of (not-so-good) mechanics on the expense of the actual magic effect. And the speed... Mechanic work like that really should be outsourced if you don't know how to properly build it.
I get you're excited, but have you ever stopped to think about it? With walls that slow, the moment-the very crucial, critical wow moment never happens. It's gonna take forever before someone even realizes something has appeared!

I'm just glad it's not slow and noisy.

Dunno about you, but to me that heavily implies "end product".

Very sad what the Café has become. Very negative. Nothing has changed since I have been gone.
Thanks guys for the comments. Will direct them below. Just seems to be two concerns: Noise - Yes it is noisy cause it is in a shop. Music normally covers this up. Speed - This can be adjusted depending on the price you like to pay. Standard models and mostly requested is what you currently see. You can make tweeks to make it faster. But if you like to be faster which can be done there is an extra charge cause of the actuators are more expensive. If you choose to purchase just keep that in mind. Please keep in mind what you are seeing is just one of the motions the product does. We have built in some models fog machine and lights per clients request. So modifications are welcome. Best,

Most people call it as they see it. You can't deny the fact that this specific prop is very slow. You should've posted a video of a more dynamic unit if there is a video of it.
I think you should've skipped this "low budget" version alltogether and just sold the higher priced one with the speedy actuators because the speed lessens the impact to nonexistent and quite frankly that is a big disservice to the magicians who spend their money on it.

--> Sad that is what we do these days. Call it as you see it. Still in shop and just sharing the difference in the product upgrade we have done over the course of listening to the audience that has bought the effect. None have mentioned about slowness. I think you should've skipped this "low budget" version all together and just sold the higher priced one with the speedy actuators because the speed lessens the impact to nonexistent and quite frankly that is a big disservice to the magicians who spend their money on it. --> I disagree. Many of the magicians that have gotten the moto-mation really liked the slow part of the illusion. So saying skip the low budget is really not an option. Again if you want more speed it is an upgrade option. That is the beauty of upgrading. You will get what you want in the end. So saying you can upgrade to faster speeds is a dissatisfaction? I guess if you want heated seats in your car IT should come with it NO matter what? that's pretty much what you are saying. It is an upgrade option. So I see no disservice there. Will post more videos as we make them. Best,

From a builder's standpoint, it seems you have used a winch motor. Those motors, while high torque, are noisy and slow. There are better motor choices out there. mcmaster.com or grainger.com are great sources.
We replaced the motor on Melinda's former Pole Levitiation because the producer wanted it to go faster. It was a chore, as Johnny Gaughan used compatible heavy duty components (i.e. motor shaft and sprockets I.D. were the same size. as well as the gear on the limit switch) When we increased in motor size to speed it up, we had to have some parts machined to fit the new motor. -- Vinny |

So, you really were expecting to get rave reviews automatically? When people offer quite honest views you just get offended and start defending your prop instead of even trying to be objective about it and its shortcomings.
You really cant compare an illusion to heated carseats. Be it a vanish or an appearence, you need impact. Look at Copperfield's "One". That has impact, it's got a "wow" moment. The cloth goes up quickly, it doesn't slowly go up over the course of 2 minutes.

Those who can take such criticism and learn/grow from it become winners (to whatever extent that is possible). Those who can't take such input remain the losers. You see the latter all the time around these parts. [just my opinion, as usual] TW

Not once I asked for a raving review. We listen to our audience. All the improvements in this version is based of actual uses for current owners of the prop. Again I have said if you like to upgrade you are more then welcome to do so. No problem. But when you deal with price it will change on the motors used.
illusiontech - When working with Greg Frewin and his levi it should have been hydro driven. So I understand what you mean when updating the prop. Currently this is what works great for current users. Always welcome to upgrade to other motors but please realize it is an additional price for these upgrade. Other colors are also available. A few other things we have had Moto-mation not only used to make a bike appear but drummers, a group of people etc. So the speed is all relivate on presentation and your execution. I understand we live in the world of speed. Feel free to talk to Jack when discuss the illusion with him or PM us about it. Best,

Very good point Thomas. I don't think anyone here is trying to be rude, just honest. I was yawning while watching the video, and I believe that spectators watching this illusion in performance would be yawning as well. Vinny has offered some excellent solutions that should at least be taken into consideration. |

Thanks Vinny. Will look into those suppliers when an order comes thru that likes additional speed. Great resources.

I watched the Frewin Levi (unless he had it rebuilt by now) being built at Mark Schock's shop. We visited there when Greg was performing in Atlantic City, many many years ago.
I'll have to go thru the old photo album and relive the memories! For the 90's, the technology used was pretty advanced. --Vinny |
