Is there a buying/selling/trading forum here at the Café?
I don't see one but just wanted to be sure I didn't miss anything |

Yes, but you first have to have 50 posts to access it.

It should be added that spamming 50 meaningless posts to get to it will just get you kicked off the boards.
Join in, engage in the conversations, and you'll be there before you know it.

The only guideline is NO knock-offs.

There is a guideline post you can read when you get your 50 posts. In the nutshell the Café is not responsible for any transactions and you buy, sell, and trade at your own risk. Probably 98% of the time everyone is honest, but every once in a while someone tries to scam the members.

Man, if I had known this a year ago I would have a lot more than 11 posts by now. I'm trying not to think about the rarities I may have missed out on.

It's not so easy to post - you have to really think before you write - I have seen some rather harsh replies, to what I think are good questions. It's almost like if you don't do a search for what you are going to ask or comment on - you will get bashed with a link to an old thread. Most people are very nice and helpful - but a couple can really feel unwelcome - and it really only takes one.
Just my thoughts - I wish some of these guys would remember when they started, and must have gotten some help.. David

It's very difficult to find things on the Café these days, and many of the "old timers" don't realize it (and some have forgotten how it feels to be a “newbie”).
Someone else asked a question a few days ago, and was answered with no actual info, just a “link to the appropriate thread”. Just for fun, I followed that link, and it took me almost ten minutes to find the information, and I already knew what I was looking for! Don’t be discouraged. Everyone here LOVES magic, and (almost) everyone here has a real desire to help other people. Rule of thumb, if you don’t see it, it probably requires 50 posts (which really isn’t that hard to do!) And Welcome (ALL) to the Café! It truly is the “coolest” magic site on the web!

I have been on the receiving end of some of those "old-timers", and even from one newer member. Some people, I guess, do not take the time to actually read their own posts before clicking on "submit".
We all are guilty once in awhile...but we need to realize that many--especially the rather young--are trying to learn. It's our job as veterans to help them. Heck...even we experienced magicians need help! For instance, I am rather inexperienced in mentalism, and asked a question...and was roundly trounced on for using an improper term. Good grief. Just ignore the grumps, and keep asking!

I wish I had known about this section of the Magic Café forums from the time I signed up to be a member also. I would have been a bit more active my first few months. I was looking for a review of 'Travelogue' and I saw someone posted on that thread that they were selling theirs and another member pointed out that they should have posted that request in the 'selling' section of the boards. That is the only way I found out about the buying/selling section.

I don't have this effect, but found this on a website. Maybe it is somewhat helpful.

I don't understand why it have to be like that. I think it's good when you need 50 post to get access to secret sessions but 50 post to sell and buy!? Of course if you have good english it's nice to write but when your english suck like mine writing is annoying. And learning english it's take some time...

The Café is merely trying to avoid scams, and unhappy magicians, because it's somtimes too much work for a scammer to write 50 legitimate posts.
On the Old Timer/Newbie thing, I think both sides should be a little more understanding, even if it's a little unbalenced...cough Haha -Teed |

I'd like to see those "grumpy" posts. I have never been denied help.
Some of the replies in the "Not Very Magical But" section can get pretty harsh but it's not about Magic, so one need not go there. Sometimes doing a search doesn't give the results one wants or needs, so asking a question that has been asked time & time again is to be expected. No need to be rude, just don't answer the question. I never understood why anyone would answer a question or be mean about it if they don't like the question to begin with. Iven
