Hey there FCM family

below is this sundays lesson and I just found out tonight that they want me to do something with magic and use this point!

We will take a look at Humility. We define Humility as putting others first by giving up what you think you deserve.

April 3 - Treat others like they're more important than you. Jesus treated His disciples like they were important to Him (Jesus washed His disciples' feet, John 13

I will be honest I'm drawing a blank right now. after spending some serious thinking time I got nada- zip, zero
any thoughts you would be willing to throw my was would be greatly appreciated.

thanks in advance

Random thoughts ...
Don't know if you want to go down this road, but ... The act of putting another's interest above your own is often seen as non-rewarding. But we know that God will reward "what is done in secret". Could you devise a method where you give something of value to a helper, then have the helper give it, or a portion, to another helper. In the end it is shown that what the first helper gave away has been replenished, and more added ... Rice bowls might serve well

Has to be done carefully so the kids don't get the idea that they will always get a reward, or at least, a reward in this life.
Happily Yours,

I'm not sure it would be most effect having the effect teach the message, but the result of the presentation.

I suppose I would do something where I did an effect and did in such a way that I kept talking about how good I was at it and how awesomely well I do it. Then when it is over, say, now you would like to do another trick and invite someone up and do something where they are the hero...and they are the star. And when it is over I'd ask the audience, which presentation they liked better, the one where was all full of myself or the one where the helper was made to look good? They will pick the latter. Then I would point out that this is what happens in life, when we build ourselves up, we aren't very much fun to be around. But when we build up others, and make them special, then everybody is happier.

Don't know if what follows might help or not, but it is a good follow up for it. Just not sure how much time you have to do the magical message.

Humility And Pride
Two emotions deep down inside, are those of humility and pride,
They produce what men may see, in the life of both you and me.
A haughty spirit can sure reside, in a heart that’s filled with pride.
A humble spirit is in you and me, when you’re filled with humility.

You can lift yourself up with pride, but God’s Word is not denied,
And God’s Word is clear and loud, God will humble all the proud.
Men may believe that they are wise; but that is only in their eyes.
For all of pride, my dear friend, by The Lord shall be condemned.

Men who are humble and meek, by proud men considered weak,
By The Lord are never despised, but truly favored in God’s eyes.
The Lord will exalt humble men; for this is in His Word my friend,
They will be lifted up by The Lord, as by God they’re not ignored.

On the cross there was no pride, as Jesus Christ our Savior died.
Christ had displayed for us humility, as The Savior of all humanity.
The Eternal God, far from weak, was to all men humble and meek.
God’s example is for all to behold, and His Word will not grow old.

Friend pride can be a hindrance, to the life Christ has given to us,
Pride will never be used by God, but it shall be judged by His rod.
Allow Christ’s humble spirit within, then you shall be used by Him,
As only a meek and humble life, truly displays the power of Christ.

by Bob Gotti

Anyway, that would be my suggestion...

When we are all wrapped up in ourself, we are a very small package.

Getting out of self and into helping others is a wonderful thing.

When I was younger my "I's", were to close together. When I first heard that I thought my friend was talking about my "eyes". Actually in getting out of my self (more as I am still a work in progress) has helped open my eyes. The prayer of St. Francis could be used here. I sometimes use a straight jacket escape and talk about ways self gets in the way as the buckles are fastened.

When we are all wrapped up in ourself, we find ourself overdressed.

The above is for a regular service (or used in my urban ministry programs) rather than work with just the young ones.

A little humor on this topic: Our church gave a man a medal for his humble humility which everyone appreciated. But when he pinned the medal on his shirt, they had to ask for it back.

At first I thought your poem was by John Gotti. That probably would have changed the entire dynamic...

Re: a little humor.....

Another reason they took back the medal, was his selling his DVD's (BOR sales) on humility at the back of the church.

I have a great program about humility. I'm just waiting for a big enough audience to present it…
