I'm not so much worried about him taking shows as I am about how people will perceive magic. Especially that of local magicians. We all know how a bad act can affect all of us.
I know there is a lot more work out there and the more people spreading the word that there is MAGIC in the magic city, the more people will ask for it. Like I said before, this guy does a great job of getting out there, of course he can as he doesn't have a job!... any way I digress, I just don't want him poisoning the waters. Thanks all of you for your advice and support. Kent |

Kent;
I completely understand your position; I think most adults know the difference between poorly performed tricks and a polished routine that will knock their socks off. My point was, with you increased advertising of your business and performing more shows with a superior routine, you will be doing a great job of getting out there as well. Good Luck |

Woo Hoo! I'm now a Full Professor at the Camelard College of Conjuring of Chemmis. Still don't exactly know what that is, but it sounds good.
http://www.camelardcollege.org/ is the link if you want to join too. |

Wow - this thread really took a turn. If you guys want to discuss or get fake credentials from a "Conjuring School", start another thread PLEASE. Its easy to do.
This was a discussion of the importance of presenting a professional image. Fake credentials don't really fit here. Tom |

Sorry, again. WE were talking about the FAKE professionals. I got the FAKE credentials as a joke.

A bad act has absolutely NO impact on me. Why? Because I am nowhere near them or where they advertise or anything. The relationships I have with my clients are so much deeper than being affected adversley by a hack. I will admit it is a fine excuse for lackluster results, but it is not true. Bad acts have nothing to do with you. The only act that has an affect on you, is yours. Put more time and effort and energy into doing what you do, and worry less about what someone else does.

The affect that I am talking about is where the "client" doesn't even contact a magician because they have seen a "bad" one and now have no desire to hire one.
I perform at a guest ranch here in Montana on average every eight days. There are between 100 to 200 new guest every time. Several times I have had guest come up to me and comment that they normally didn't like to see magic because they have seen so many bad magicians, but were glad they stuck around to see me. That is the comment that tells me that bad magicians do have an affect on the good ones. Not disputing your comment, just saying. |

I still say it has no impact. It is a wash. I mean for every one who sees that, another 100 see a good magician who makes them think of it in a positive light.
Like I said it is easy to find excuses. Not a problem there. Don't fall into that trap. It doesn't seem as if you have, but believe me that the only business practices that have an impact on you, are yours.

I agree with Danny - create your own reputation and it doesn't really matter what other's do. If you're really concerned, create a new category for yourself ("The Wild West Magician" or the "The Medicine Man" as per your profile pic) so people automatically know you are something different from what they are used to.

I haven't had a change to read the text yet.
I thought your old site looked pretty good, except for the flashing, moving text near the upper left corner. But the new one looks so much better. |
