Kenner's book is not out of print as far as I know. It was for quite a while, but I believe Richard Kaufman (Genii) has it for sale again. Head over to http://www.Geniimagazine.com I feel the book is well worth the money just for that trick alone; however, there are other effects in the book which are amazing as well. There are other cool versions of 3-Fly around, but why not start with the original?

Didn't mean to in anyway slight Ol' JT. My apologies to not mention his initial place in the originality of all of this here. Much respect to his great creativity and contributions to the craft. So let it be written, So let it be done.

Hey, check with Tannens in NYC ( tannens.com) for Kenner's book. They had it for sale last time I was there.

I am a huge supporter of Kenners work, I have his books, and they are wonderful. HOWEVER, I think 600 dollars for a 3 fly is not practical. lets face it, you can actually get off your keester and practice, and have a nice gimmick-less version that costs next to nothing, or you can spend 600 bucks and get the exact same thing (but its easier). Im not putting down coin gaffs because god knows I use them, but this new craze with super expensive 3-flys is getting a little redundant.

Ryan, folks
If you are a working pro and that item would help you as you entertain audiences - it's worth it. The more shows you do and the more times you find things out of place, slippery hands, reset issues, coins dropping ... generally learning about what can fail and how to recover - the better you can decide what items are worth the expense. Think about that Dahl story about the lighter if you have any doubts. Jon

Oh don't get me wrong, I'm a HUGE Kenner fan, and an avid supporter of his work, and the work of Jaime Schoolcraft. I understand that my post came off as aggressive, but I meant no disrepsect. If you got the cash, and you do enough shows to make it work your while, then more power to you. Its just my cup of tea....or coffee in my case.

Hey folks, If you want to learn Chris Kenner's handling of a gaffless 3 Fly, then go here http://www.theory11.com/tricks/three-fry-chris-kenner.php to download a Kenner 3 FLy tutorial called 3 Fry. The price of the download is $4.95. That is not a misprint. This excellent tutorial will set you back all of $4.95. I believe that's a long way from $800. How can you resist a deal like that?!

Tony the 3fry you linked to is called Long Gone Silver in his book.
It is a different routine from 3fly which was called Menage Et Trois. An excellent routine. I believe there is a video showing Chris doing 3Fly /Menage et trois on youtube as well as one with Katie doing an ungaffed version with excellet ditch and reappearance of the last coin. If I were looking into getting the gaff Superfly I would look into doing it ungaffed first to see if I really wanted to spend that much on the gaff and what other routines I could do with said gaff for that kind of money. I saw the gaff and though it is nice I feel it is un-needed for this routine. I felt the same with Come Fly With Me as well as the Bob Kohler version of the effect. Also look at the excellent version on the video Sick by Ponta the Smith. You do not need the gaff to make it look clean. You need mucho practice time. Mobius |

Mobius is right here, now about a year later on this. Hope you guys interested in 3 Fly give the gaffless version a try first before spending some serious money. Again, the gaff stuff can be pretty cool but try your own abilities first, give the original effect some practice and then still check to see if you just have to have it be more automatic for you. I'm guessing with real practice and that you don't have any such disability hampering you, that you will be real happy yourself, learn a lot as to movement and deception and you'll still be able to go out and buy the gaffed effect if you still want it. Anything from Chris Kenner is killer, then and now. And anything from Jamie Schoolcraft has been made by a real craftsman for sure. Anyway, here's a look at what you can do once you get the basic understanding down from the original routine. Many people have their own version, gaffed & ungaffed...Here's mine.

Hey, thank you guys for the very kind words here. Not so sure about the "top" of anything but I've come to be able to do a few things and have incorporated all that into a few nice-enough presentations IMHO. I've also happened upon little trinkets as to moves and motivations, it's all taught me the value of diligence through practice. It truly all comes together down-the-road-a'piece if you stick with it. You could even create or re-new a thing or two. This routine is from a journey that started with Townsend and Kenner, continued with flashes from Dan Sylvester and Justin Miller and got smoothed out with recollections of Homer Liwag and Eric Jones and then pointers from Eric Mead, just something I've been playing with for a while now and finally got a chance to yell, "Eureka!" as to it. I'm so happy you like it. Thank you.

I'm certainly not much of a coin mechanic. I have played around with Chris's original no-gaff handling and really did not think it was that hard. At one point or another I've had a few different gaffed versions. I used them for a while, but never hung on to them. The one I probably like the most is Lee Asher's 3 Stylin' which uses different colored poker chips. Pretty simple handling and the colored chips really make it POP.
