I have seen this trick been performed several times,
in bars, at shows and on tv. It does look great, and the reactions by laymen are stunning when they start off with a 50, and after 5 sec. they end up with a 100,(actually looks like it's worth the extra 50).. My question is: I guess in the basic routine you need your TT, but does anyone out there know an alternative gim. or routine worth buying? or is the basic one the first and the best??
...As long as i`m not a world-champion at anything, the great reactions of doin` magic will do just fine.....

The bill change I do is my own but was derived from two places.
Jarle Leirpoll's video/book “Pocket Power”. The effect is called The No Gimmick Bill Switch. and Michael Ammar’s “Classic Renditions #3: The Invisible Bill Switch”. The effect is of course The Invisible Bill Switch.

Another very good one, IMO, is the 'Lightning Switch' done with Jay Scott Berry's Cloaking Device. You can get the C.D. from Hocus-pocus. You will need to buy either the C.D. DVD or Jay's Illusioneering lecture notes (highly recommended anyway) to learn the switch. Both of those are also available at Hocus-pocus.

Paul Chosse"Bar Bill Stunt" from Ron Bauer Private Study Series is very good as is John Lovick's method from his lecture notes ( the name of the lecture notes escape me at this time). Both are TT free.
CREAM from Sean Fields is also quite interesting. It bears some ressemblances with Jay Scott Berry's method. There was a very interesting thread on this very subject not long ago on this forum. |

In the original manuscript, the $100 Bill Switch, Mike K. gives a method without a TT as well as the original method with one. I've used the original method literally inches from a spectator and they don't have a clue how it's done. I think some of the variations which have been mentioned are great for fooling our magic colleagues and they are fine for layman too. In my opinion, however, the variations that I am familiar with have certain drawbacks, which are reasons why I still use the original plain vanilla switch.

I use the Bill Switch from John Cornelius' book, which I believe is the one that Ammar teaches on his classic renditions video. It's the best out there and uses a TT. I like it because it's the cleanest and easiest to handle. Some gimmicked switches do happen more visually but are unexaminable. This is the best one for me.

There are several threads on the Café that explore the various methods for switching, as well as the presentations that work best for people. You would do yourself a favor by searching these out, since there is a ton of good information already on-line, and most of us are too lazy to re-write everything! If you need help searching I'm sure one of the Café Moderators will be glad to PM you about the best ways to search for stuff. Hope this is helpful. If you need other info PM me and I'll help if I can.
Best, PSC

Thanx guys,
A lot of helpful information. I'll also do a search on this thread because it is a stunning trick for laymen, but I didn't know that there was so many different ways to do this trick. Guess I am looking for books/dvd on doing this without a gim?? I have a lot of skeptical buddys, so lately l have been practecing every non gimmicked trick I know. Just because l love to end up clean after an effect....
