I attended the CC Conclave this weekend, and Mickey Silver was also there - not as a SCHEDULED performer, though. Anyone who knows Mickey, knows that he is seldom seen without performing for people around him. This convention was no exception as he wowed those who knew him and those had never heard of Mickey. People just could not get enough of his funny antics and miraculous moves. The crowds would swell to about 100 until they had to leave for another lecture or event. It was great to see Mickey with new bits and effects. His coin through a glass door was nothing short of impossible. People were so slayed that some were complaining of feeling sick from having their logic so twisted. Mickey's engaging personality combined with unsurpassed skill was like a magnet. He was bringing back that sense of wonder to those around him - even the most jaded of magicians.

It is a rare treat to watch Mickey Silver work a crowd. I wish I was there.

Mickey got such a huge crowd outside the lecture room that one of Hank Lee's guys came out and told him he had to quit because no one was coming into the lecture. Hank's son said it was the most magical thing he had ever seen. Larry Wilson (who was one of the headliners and was wonderful himself) was not familiar with Mickey. After watching with his mouth open, he said it was absolutely wonderful. Miceky never runs out of energy or friendship. A good time was had by all.

Correction. Just heard from Hank's guy and I apologize. Didn't have all the facts. Apparently Mickey was asked to move to the lobby as the applause for his work was disruptive to the crowd inside the lecture. He as asked to move out of respect for Rich Marotta (who gave a great lecture himself). I totally understand as Rich is a great guy himself. Mickey's crowds do seem to get carried away and I personally would not want to have to work against that myself. Once again, my apologies for getting the details wrong.

Mickey is definitely a talented guy. The "swishing" sound that he makes can be annoying at times, but there is no denying his ability.

On the other hand, if you hear the "swish", it could only be Mickey. Just like when you hear Eric Clapton play the guitar, you know it can only be Eric. How many other magicians can you recognize with your eyes closed and no word is spoken?
