I was curious as to what type of effects most people are doing for the summer library shows. I'm putting my show together, and I was looking for some more ideas.

Thanks,
David

Unless you're already booked, you're probably too late this year. But watch Tommy James's Read to Achieve Magic Show DVD. Required viewing for entry to the library market.

Harris, one library said it's "around the world at your library", and another said "one world, many stories". They both sound about the same to me. I would like to have started on it sooner, but I just recently found out what the theme is. tgs, I do have bookings already, and was looking for ideas to go along with the theme of the libraries.

Some performers are using the resource disk from Jim Kleefeld, to help create their summer library show:

Look for "World Magic - World Culture Magic Show Resource Guide" and "One World Many Stories Music CD".

Either way, it would lead you/me to create similar programs.

Great Scott...Is that a first name, country of origin. If Country you could start there.

We will be doing things in several languages, using strings of the flags of the world, Square to Circle.(the world is round...I usually have been doing it circle to square)

Stories/folk tales can be told with puppets. I choose to use the vent approach.

Please share what you have been working on.

I am not soing this years theme and all the libraries booked me for my special show so I never came up with any ideas for the many stories one world theme.

however here is an idea

produce a lot of silks all different colors and put them in a change bag and then pull out a LONG stream of FLAGS form different countries all hanging on the line.

do a mis made american flag. if I am not mistaken you can still use an american flag in america not sure though.

talk about differnt tricks that are known or well known or associated with certain countries - chinese linking rings for example then do a short 3 ring routine.

ok now go do your own work as I have to get back to mine Smile

have a great one

I went another route I am using books by authors from around the world as the inspiration for my show. I really don't want to block your creativity with my own idea's but there are many examples

The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle Carle was born in china and used this to tie his classic story to pull China and the silk worm into my show.

Books by authors of the world...excellent....

Some simple things escape this nearly normal entertainer.
