“An attack must be executed with quickness, not speed. Attack with power, not strength. There is a great difference between speed and quickness, power and strength. Think this through carefully. It is the essence of strategy”

Miyamoto Musashi

I have started a discussion in Food for Thought area on the above quote. Literally, just started it, so have no idea if it will go anywhere at all. But, read and meditate on how the above could inform your magic, especially the 'execution' of your routines.

The uniformed often will attribute 'speed' to the reason that 'we' are able to 'fool' them or more accurately 'fool their brain'. But, in very, very few instances is 'speed' actually an important part of the execution.

Think of 'quickness' as the ability to execute at the 'correct time' with 'precision'. What is done both smoothly and well will often be mistaken for sheer 'speed'.

Consider: Would it be more valuable for a swordsman to place his blade quickly and precisely into a vulnerable spot that instantly brings a victory or would it be better to, by dint of sheer speed, hack or stab and 'maybe' make a mortal hit???

Good or great magic is not 'speed', but accurate execution to the surrounding rhythm.

Best regards,
Brad Burt
