Here is my new square circle, it fits with the retro Chinese theme that I like. Thanks to Jay Leslie for the perfectly done main tube made of rolled steel. The forum here was very helpful with advice, for example there was a listing for the best source of sticky felt. So its not quite a professional job but good enough and just the right size for my Kids show. I have an open and a closed interior part. Thanks Jay and the Forum!

(whoops, my file won't upload, I'll post a link)

Bill what size it? You do nice work. It is kind of reminiscent of an Owen piece in the front cut out design.

I know you believe you understand what you think I said, but I am not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.

Hey thanks all. The Tube is 14 inches high and 7 inches in diameter, the box is 13 high and 8 inches across. The interior part is 12 by 6 inches. The stand surface is 1/8 neoprene for handling. I had trouble cutting the front and finally ended up using a jigsaw and a dremel tool then lots of sanding. The wood is for crafts & model building from Revel, this is 1/8 inch birch plywood, they make it in 1 x 2 sheets.

Not a professional job? I disagree!

I'm not sure I would have gone with the glitter paper, considering the asian theme of the rest of it... but the woodworking looks good.. the paint looks smooth... and the trim looks GREAT.

WELL DONE!!

1/8" ply is not the easiest stuff to work with. Your use of 1/4 round inside is very resourceful. Grill front and side character design are both very nice.

Wow thanks Michael, your work is out of this world. I agree building a small box is harder than building a big one.

I'm with Michael on the 1/4" round. Gives it a nice artistic design when looking from the top or bottom.

I thought that tube looked familiar...

The wood trim, using half-rounds, takes the heat off the opening and it's a sure bet that kids on the floor or people standing can't see the G as easily as most other models.

Beautiful box.

Two questions --

1. Is the Chinese character on the side genuine?

2. And if so, what does it mean?
