I made an uneducated purchase from E-bay. I really wanted an Axtell Drawing Board, but couldn't afford one. In my E-Bay search I found a description that read "Animated Rising Card 2 tricks in 1 magic drawing board". From the photo, it appeared to be the sketch pad version. I bought it for $20.
I am ashamed of myself...especially since I KNOW better. What I received was a gimmicked jumbo size playing card, printed on one side with a deck of cards in a tumbler. Out of this, the card rises. I suppose it could work in some settings, and I will use it as such (kids parties, etc) I can't remember the real name of the effect, but I DID find out that the wholesale was $1. I was, needless to say, p****d off. And p****d on. Shame on me.

Break Out
In short....the plot is a good one. Good thought. The gimmick for this effect does not stand close scrutiny, nor even semi close scrutiny. The idea is good however. When watching the training DVD, the box is laying on the table the gimmick is evident. The gimmick is also evident when the magic is happening. Clean up is messy as well. Very apparent and not angle proof.

I haven't bought any garbage in the past six months, but have bought much in the past.
Great thread. Keep it up!

I have bought a lot this year. Some great, some garbage.
The garbage I bought I was lucky enough to sell to some sucker here on the Café for a ridiculous price before the hype died down on it. So, it all worked out in the end for me. (lol) You know I'm kidding, right? OOH, by the way, best thing I purchased this year was the Axtell Animated Drawing Board. And I'm not just saying that, I absolutely mean it!

I love what I have seen so far!

I know this might be a little outside of the six month range, but I have one that's so bad I had to add it.
Control 2.0, the pulse stopping effect. I have yet to get that to work on anyone, and believe me... I've tried. By the time I get the "manipulation" going hard enough for anyone to actually feel it, it's obvious what I'm doing. I've had people feel all areas of my wrist, re-watched the video a dozen times, and followed the instructions to a tee. Either there is something wrong with my body, or this thing is the biggest rip-off I've encountered in my 14 years of being a magician. I know there is a small army of Theory 11 hipsters here on the Café that are going to rise up and smite me for saying it, but this "trick" is so bad that even if I'd have gotten it free, I'd wish I'd have paid for it so I could behotch about wanting my money back. |

UPDATE OF MAGICAL ATROCITIES:

The Official Worst of The Last 6 Months: Remember ladies and gents: 1. Keep ON topic 2. List the creator's/company's name with the product 3. NO PLUGS 4. No "I haven't bought anything bad. Ha ha" comments. 5. Product must have been released between November 2010 and April 2011 (though if you want to include a recent purchase that was released in May I won't say no) This is a thread for the garbage! I don't understand why it has to be "of the last 6 month." I can't find any reason for that.

Quite frankly, I'm truly amazed that you can't think of a reason.
There are ENTIRE sections here on the Café dedicated to magical reviews and the field testing of products. As such, there are hundreds of threads dedicated to both The Garbage and The Gold. Unfortunately, ssometimes the sheer overload of critiques may 'push back' a thread that really should have stayed around. The initiative of THIS thread is NOT to generate a canonical list of the worst ever material. It is here as a safegaurd for those who are looking through the 'New Arrivals' as it were. Threads like this save magicians' time and money when they are scanning the 'new releases' market for new additions to their repertoire. Best Chappo

Yes, but many of the list are not from the last 6 months or "New Arrivals." For example, Titan's finger (2009), Smokey (2007), etc...

OK. Now I can see what your qualm is. Thanks for pointing this out. I had absolutely no idea that these products were released prior to the allocated period. I'll once again reitterate...

Well with that being said I will also cast a vote in The Perfect Nail Bends Direction. The effect worked for me, but the set-up time was so ungodly long for an effect in my opinion that was "Eh Cool" not the reactions I want to get when I perform my magic... Sorry for any chaos caused friends lol -Bobby |

No worries atouchofmagic1. I'll update the list. Though, at the end of the day, ANATE has been released within the time restrictions and has ALOT of votes. So that'll at least save some magician's hard earned cash.

Really and truly...Guru...coin melts the bag....its awfull, it sticks to your fingers, the bag looks odd, its not at all convincing...i was warned not to buy it by the guy in the shop even, but I thought it would work well with my bending coin routine...how wrong I was.......

Actually I've had quite good results with my presentation of Guru. I use the whole controlling of body temperature speil, but luckily I have quite cold peripheries which helps to sell the story. Yes the bag does look a bit suspect, but the spectator can't see any foul play as it seems pretty fair. My 2 cents.

I'd have to say the electro-magic squeeker. The concept is great with lots of uses, but the apparatus itself is just too cumbersome and delicate. The inner workings can be knocked inoperative by even the slightest impact, or even a low battery!
Everybody wants to beleive.....we just help them along.
