Would someone please be kind enough to describe the effect for me? I've read a lot about how great the trick is but can't even find a description of the effect; even here when it was requested the answer was something like "please take the leap of faith and buy it, I don't want to spoil the surprise."
I'm not asking for the secret - I have no problem buying magic - I just want to know what it is that I'm buying. I'm sure I don't know as much about magic as the majority of you do, but I know enough to know that I can't sell an effect if I don't like it myself. As an example, I don't do spelling tricks because I absolutely despise them (I mean no offense to those who do like them, it's merely a matter of taste). I'd be immensely appreciative if I could get - or be pointed to - a description of the effect. Again, I'm not asking for the secret - just the effect. Thanks in advance for any answers. RS |

Here is the description straight from "The Card Magic of Nick Trost":
A spectator picks one of two decks and examines it. He has a free choice. As the performer's back is turned, the spectator reverses any card in his deck at any point. His deck is returned to its case. The performer now uncases the other deck, shows it to be regular, then takes it behind his back and reverses one card. He brings the deck forward and states that if he and the spectator acted in accord, the two reversed cards will be in the same position in each deck. The cards are dealt in unison from both decks, and both reversed cards do fall at the same position. "If we were in perfect accord," the performer says, "then we will have reversed matching cards." The two face-down cards are turned up. A perfect match! That's the description, and it is just as described. If you're thinking about getting the Card Magic of Nick Trost, I highly recommend it! A ton of great stuff in there. |

You won't regret it. One of the things that is so great about his books is the creativity they stimulate. For example, I really liked his "A Premonition" effect, which I worked out to make impromptu! So I can entertain with that, and then follow up with the "Spectator's Card Trick" as a way of repeating (but not really). PM me when you get the book if you're interested in seeing my handling.

Does any material overlap from Card Magic of Nick Trost with any of the Subtle Card Creations books?

Vast, vast amounts of new stuff. I first got Vol 3. liked it so well I immediately bought the previous 2 volumes. If you like Nick Trost's stuff, I don't think you will be dissapointed. |

Nicolas, MANY of Trost's effects are impromtu. Also, Aldo Colombini's teaching, Aldo On Trost DVD series is excellent. You can find them at http://www.WildColombini.com.

Great little effect....and so simple to do! All the hallmarks of a good Trost routine. Just a small point, however - and am not sure if this is down to me mis-reading the instruction or whether there. Is actually a typo (as you may be aware, am nearly always being subjected to jetlag to some extent and therefore this could easily be me that is wrong!). However, when I try to perform the reset as written, it never actually does the job. It is actually extremely straightforward to right the wrong and to reset using logic but, unless I am totally misreading dear old Nicks intent, the reset does not appear to work as written. Feel free to correct me, probably is me making the mistake...however I am clear in my mind how to reset but was just wondering if anybody else had the same problem? As I said, marvellous effect and well worth a short space of time playing with this one.
Have you tried 'Up The Ante' yet?? The ultimate gambling demo....a self-working wonder! See the reviews here on the cafe.

Its a very effective mystery with cards. I fooled myself the first time I tried it. I love that.

Interestingly, I was reading Karl Fulves Self Working Mental Magic yesterday, and came across a trick very similar to Trost's Intuition. It's number 58 "Ultimate Match" based on an idea by Eddie Joseph.

It is my favourite Nick Trost effect. I only do two effects using two decks. This one and Michael Vincent's ACAAN.

Nick Trost had a great mind in magic, His stuff will never get old, His thinking was great most of his work is pretty easy but very effective. If you do not have his books buy them all, & his packet tricks are awesome!

The video performance has some extras not in the Trost book. The faros and false cuts are not part of the description. Also, it appears that he is using marked decks - there was no gl_ _ _ _ e.
I was wondering if you think the gl_ _ _ _ e is really necessary. Since you are later going to have the spectator turn their deck face-up, why not just have them turn their deck face-up immediately after flipping their chosen (cut-to) card and assembling the deck? That eliminates the need for you to handle their deck at all and you can see what you need without any unmotivated moves. |
