This effect really does have a lot of potential. I'm going to have the spectator write an activity, day, and time onto my 3x5 imp pad and p--k the info. The Alarmed gaff will actually be inside the middle of the pad secured with some light adhesive. So when I take the pad back I can flip directly to the gaff to write down my "thoughts".
I will first write the activity the person chose on the back of the gaff and then do the rest of the work as usual. Once I put the pad away I will load the gaff in my wallet and I now have a double reveal of the activity and the time as the kicker. I got the idea of this type of reveal from Aaron Delong's Believe effect. |

Very happy with Alarmed...I am able to use it quicker...speeding up with it now I feel more comfortable using the gimmick whilst performing but then again it all depends on the day, and time! One person did name the hour, minute and second but I said 'I can only do magic, not amiracles!' I did forget to remember the AM/PM once but I just got on with it! But it is rare that a member of audience would be so pedantic and say a for instance 12:38 and 42 seconds.
I strongly recommend Alarmed! I am new on here, although followed this for many months or years...I want to start another topic: I would like to know if anyone on here has purchased "The Corner DVD I & II by G (S.M PRODUCTIONZ.COM)?! I was wondering how you magicians are finding it? I am really disappointed in this purchased. I suppose they call it The Corner DVD' because it can only be done in "Corners", LOL. Does anyone know if there is a thread or topic for ranting about products/DVD's or effects and sharing my disappointments with other magicians? |

Is alarmed easy enough for us hobbyists doing relatively easy magic for family and friends? Thanks in advance.

Just curious : do you guys have to palm load 2 times... because when you are done there is also that sticker...
I saw on the performance section Ade go to the pocket 2 times... the first time to load the sticker with no logical motivation... Of course there is the solution to leave it with your pad/writing surface... any good practical motivated-move-solution? |

It is easy enough for hobbyists and can be done with no sleight of hand, so you can just concentrate on the presentation. I forgot to mention it on the dvd but there is a very simple way to do it without sleight of hand, just email me noel@tricktrickboom.com if you wish to know.
By the way it isn't Ade on the DVD with me, it's Richard Bellars. Cheers, Noel http://www.tricktrickboom.com |

For anyone who has both....could this fit in the wonder gimmick (or be used in the same way) with a JOL plus wallet?

Great idea! I've been using my own ungimmicked wallet for it. Great effect.

I like the idea behind it but the 'dirty work' takes way tooo long and bit of fumbling.
I don't want to be critical but I am more into 'to the point' handling. The thing that disturbes me is in fact the Sharpie business. I know of another method that could have been used here where you rather 'take away' then add onto it. The ones in the know will understand what I mean. Nevertheless a clever idea.

Jan,
Why not simply use what your hinting at with the Alarmed cards? Take out a calender card holding it facing the spectator and have them name a date. Carry on having them imagine an hour and minute and day of freely selected date. No writing, simply the spectators imagination and then hit them with Alarmed. I like the physical product quite a bit. No Steve,
that's not what I mean. The cards would have been printed differently then... Btw. Love your HO 500 bro.

The "take away" part is what jumped out at me.

Ok, I used this in two shows over the holidays, and it KILLED them. Here's my routine, and I should tell you up front, that I use Alarmed in conjunction with Jeff Kaylor's UCCU (Any Signed Card to Any Spectator's Wallet, you can search for it) to ditch and then load the photo. Not necessary, but I use it to great effect. I'll do my best to describe this routine without giving away the secret here.
Materials: Clipboard, 8-1/2" x 11" Pad of note paper with cardboard backing and cover, about 5 x 8" Alarmed gimmick Small coin envelope, just large enough for gimmick Larger envelope, small greeting card size Sharpie marker Rubber Cement Setup: Spread rubber cement on flap of small envelope, press it closed, then open it again and let it dry. Do NOT let it close again until the right moment, as it will seal instantly. Draw digital clock with sharpie on first page of pad of paper, including all details except time and indicators of day of week and am/pm. When drawing, hold the pad in "landscape" orientation with the binding to the left, and draw the picture on the lower half of the page as you're looking at it in this orientation. Open the gimmick, and allow the removable part to separate slightly and fold over at the bound edge, and then close the gimmick again creating a small fold in the removable part, about 1/8". This will cause the gimmick to tend to want to open again, and will also allow easier removal of the removable part when you're done with the "business". Place the gimmick on top of the smaller envelope, with the open flap of the envelope to the right, and place both on top of the page with the drawing, all the way to the left at the pad binding, so you can see the drawing of the clock. Close the pad and place it in the clipboard so that the clip holds the pad, the gimmick and the small envelope together, but you can open the gimmick and work on it when the pad is open. The idea here is that you'll be able to manage the gimmick, the small envelope, and the pad while finishing the drawing, AND get the gimmick inside the small envelope and seal it, all behind the cover of the clipboard. Seal the larger envelope, just at the point of the flap so it's easy to quickly unseal it during the performance. Clip the larger envelope into the clipboard on top of the pad. Be prepared with the UCCU device (or be ready to use other technique, if you prefer). Performance: Come out with the set up clipboard & materials and the sharpie pen. Remove the Sealed envelope from the clipboard and put it down in audience view without commenting on it. Have someone select a random time of day on any day during a week. Tell them you're going to draw a picture to give an impression of the time selected, and that you're going to ask questions about the day and time selected (this part is much like the routine taught on the DVD, but with the action covered by the pad and clipboard, it's MUCH easier to do). Slide the pad slightly out of the clip on the clipboard, JUST enough to allow you to open the pad and see the entire gimmick, but still have the gimmick, small envelope and pad held in place securely. Ask what day of the week was selected, then whether it was AM or PM, and finally the time. Proceed with the "business" while also finishing the drawing of the clock on the pad. While finishing the business, ask the audience how many minutes are in a day, and when they have that figured out (1440), ask how many are in a week. Use the time it takes for them to calculate the number (10,080) to finish the drawing and the gimmick preparation. When done, remove the removable part from the gimmick, stick it into the pad binding to help hold it on the pad while you then slide the gimmick out of the clip and slide it into the envelope. Then close the envelope flap, which should seal immediately, and slide the envelope out of the clip and hold it against the pad. (Note that ALL of the above is done with an open sharpie in your right hand while you pretend to be finishing the clock drawing). While talking to the audience about the impossibility of your knowing the time selected, hold the clipboard closer to your body for a moment, remove the envelope and ditch it into the UCCU. Now tell the spectator you want him to tell you if the picture you've drawn is a good representation of the time he's selected. Remove the pad from the clipboard with the right hand, while holding the loose slip of paper against the clipboard with the left thumb. Hand out the pad and put away the clipboard with the loose slip or palm and ditch the loose slip. Now your hands should be empty and the audience is looking at the drawn clock and wondering what the point is. Ask them "how incredible would it be if I could PROVE that I either knew the selected time beforehand or that I had mentally FORCED the spectator to choose a time I had predetermined?" Indicate the sealed envelope that has been laying in plain sight since before the time was chosen. Pick up and unseal the envelope, and use the UCCU to load the smaller envelope so that you appear to remove the small sealed envelope from the larger one, and in one movement, toss the small envelope on the table in front of the spectator. Tell the audience that the proof is in a photo in the sealed envelope, allow the specator to unseal and open it and stand back while the entire audience goes nuts. That's it, I hope I didn't give away too much here, if you think I did, let me know and I'll edit or remove this post. Otherwise, let me know what you think. This has become one of my top mental effects using this routine, with every single person left utterly baffled, even in my own family. |

Very nice routine. I like your use of the UCCU, it makes the outcome seem ever more impossible.

This product is a copy of "Predicta" by Gilbert Raimond. Here is what he wrote on our french forum...
Cordialement Gilbert RAIMOND
