Hi,
I saw on a forum about lethal tender someone suggested to make a shimmed business card in place of the playing card, I thought it was a great idea! My question is what type of material I should use to make this, I thought of using a thin refrigerator magnet but it was too weak. Thanks, Tommy |

No, you should use shim metal. That is what it is called. One source is Design Engineers supply stores. They use shim metal.
But I don't think that is the best choice as it means you have to know how to split playing cards, because gluing the shim between 2 cards will be more obvious. They do sell magnetic playing cards by the deck. Gem is one brand, but if you Google Magnetic Playing Cards you should find some sources. The cards are made of a metal magnetic material that is woven into the paper stock. I know because I tore one apart and there was nothing inside. |

Depending on how strong you need it, you can get some shimming material from inside the security strips on various items you buy- it'll be the thin white sticky thing about a quarter inch wide and an inch long. Cut it open at one end and use tweezers to pull the strips out.
You'll need a strong magnet to make it work, though.

Thanks for both of your replies! I'll look into both of these options.

Tommy,
I have a couple small off-cut scraps of shim stock. I can't remember the guage, but I'mm guessing .002. It should be plenty thin for making your gimmicked business card. PM me your mailing address and I'll send them to you. ~michael

I bought a roll of .002 and .005 about 15 years ago and still have some. IMO worth the small investment to get a roll.

Take Michael up on his offer. Anything thinner then .002 will not work with the gimmick provided.

It was a scrap from another project, and I really forgot what size it was. It was originally used for a magnetic application and worked fine for that, although I use strong N-48 neo magnets. I think Lethal Tender has a 1/4" x 1/16", and hopefully it is strong enough. Hopefully, it will work for him.
