Perhaps you don't "remember" that in the immediate aftermath of the first Gulf War, George H.W. Bush had over 90% approval ratings and basked in the warm glow of a job well done . . . didn't help him when re-election rolled around. The good mood that people are feeling right now will dissipate when $6 gasoline and the consequent price increases in everything else kick in.

Danny-not one bit. People are calling for war on terror to be over... wake up people. He was just one guy, kill him and someone will step into his shoes.

The British voters sent Winston Churchill packing after V-E Day, they didn't even wait for the end of the war in Asia. That was a much bigger deal than killing UBL.

On the other hand, GWB was looking to be a one term President (even Texans were turning against him) until 9/11.
I think people will remember that Obama was the President who was in office when U.S. forces found and killed Bin Laden. And I think that this will help him with voters, even if only at the subconscious level.

Well you pays your money and you takes your choice. We'll have at least a partial answer to at least this question in November.

I mean if we know one thing about the Middle East it is that only Osamma hated us and everyone else loves us. It is that nobody else can possibly take over for him and that the war on terror can be won simply by the death of one human being. Yep we should celebrate.

Commander Richard Marcincko was writing about him in his (mostly) fiction books and spelling it "Usama" long before 9/11. I just say bin Laden so I don't have to worry about it. Speaking of Commander Marcincko, how cool is it for him that the Team he founded is the one that got bin Laden?

It is very cool. Although I am sure some folks in the other services are scratching their heads and looking for the Abbottabad beach . . . .
