I am looking at possibly adding a Dove Crusher effect to my act. Is there one that is more safe for the bird? Is one made better than the other? Price of the Surprising Dove Box is around $300. Price of the Dove Crusher is around $500. Any imput you guys have would be great.

Even though the trick works, you will probably have people talking of animal cruelty.
It is not animal cruelty, though. |

There are stupid people and there will always be those who claim animal cruelty on every single bird-related act they see.
The dove crusher is a pretty funny effect. Works wonders for kid shows. |

Kid's shows are exactly where I would like to use it. I was just trying to get feed back on bird safety. I was also wondering if this is one of those things where you get what you pay for or are they really the same thing. more or less.

Tora's stuff is top notch, but I don't know anything about Magia Imperiale, though.
Considering that, I've seen homemade Dove Crushers that work really fine and keep the bird safe. I assume a professionaly built one will do even better. |

Does anyone have a link to a quality Dove Crusher?

I am not really good at putting up links. Daytona Magic seems to have both versions on their site. Hocus Pocus seems to have the Tora version, I think. You could hit those sites. I am not really sure if there are others. I posted in the first place to get some input, and was hoping for ideas about others (if there are any). It doesn't seem like anyone has one or uses one, because there are so few of responses to my topic post.

I own a number of Tora products so I think I am qualified to speak including the Dove effect spoken of. Tora is not, and I repeat, not top notch quality but it generally is less expensive than the top-line effects.
Some of the products they sell are obvious knock-offs of other effects and some of the stuff seems to be their own creations or generally used and accepted effects. I found in most of their products, they break and I have to make repairs including the Dove effect. Just wanted to clarify. If price is the leading factor, then Tora may be for you and as I said, I do own a couple of their effects which I indeed use. The Dove effect is a real killer (no pun intended). Mike

I own a good handful of Tora products and have owned them for quite some time. After extensive use none of them had any problems, and I believe that accounts for me being sort of qualified as well, lol.
I might have been lucky with the products I have, though. |

If anyone has used the dove crusher in a kids show, please let me know what reaction you got, magicwalsh@gmail.com

I have used it only in Scout Shows when it is primarily an all boy's audience and then only in combination with other Dove effects. This is so it is already established that I do magical things with the doves and they do not get hurt. Reaction - well, that is great!!!!!

I agree with RevMike, Tora is not top notch quality. I own many Tora products. You can't see the difference, unless you have the same effect from Tora and another manufacturer (top quality of course).
