As compensation for all the damage we caused in Pakistan, I suggest we build a YMCA at the Bin Laden compound.
Actually, we shouldn't build it right at the compound. It should be built a few blocks from there. Sure, it would overlook the site of a great US victory, but that's just a coincidence. There are some paranoid critics who would point out that YMCA stands for "Young Mens Christian Association", but they should realize that this wouldn't so much be a church as it would more of a community center. |

Not so fun is it when the shoe is actually on the other foot and the side that is complaining has done the exact same things and that has to be pointed out to them is it? Again what you posted had nothing to do with racism. You really don't have a clue. True it wasn't heard that much about that being done to McCain in the liberal news media because they didn't want it that well known that it was being done by their side as well. But it wasn't unknown that it was going on. Just not talked about as much. |

When his grandmother said she was there when he was born in Kenya, that probably didn't help. Who was the last president who had a parent that wasn't American? The President's supporters are playing an interesting game here. During the campaign, if a supporter of John McCain mentioned Senator Obama's middle name, he was accused of racism, anti-Muslim, sentiment, and of falsely trying to portray Senator Obama as a foreigner; during his inauguration, and thereafter, the President proudly referred to himself with his middle name, and assured us that having that middle name would enable him to deal much more effectively with the Muslim world. If a critic or a questioner points out that the President's personal and family background are highly unusual for aspirants to the Presidency, much less actual holders of the office, she is denounced as a racist, and accused of trying to make the President appear to be "the other;" meanwhile, the President, in his campaign and in subsequent public appearances around the world, has claimed that the particular circumstances of his upbringing make him uniquely qualified to lead a diverse country in a diverse world. And so on. They want to have it both ways, using whichever aspect suits them at the moment. Woland |

I know a few Caucasians who voted for Obama because he's African-American. I don't know any African-Americans who voted for McCain because he's Caucasian. I'd like to think (and do think) that the overwhelming majority of people cast votes for reasons that had nothing to do with race, and that as we move forward, that overwhelming majority will get larger and larger, in all elections.

There very well may have been a YMCA in Abbottabad when Abbott governed there. W/ |

My ex-cat was named "Muffin". "Vomit" would be a better name for her. AKA "The Evil Ball of Fur".

Don't you find that a little odd on your part? When you enter politics forget about keeping secrets about your life. It is all fair game when you enter the political arena. From the local council man to president your background is and should be an open book. If one chooses to enter this arena he should be prepared to answer the questions and have the documentation to back it up...As they say if its to hot in the kitchen, get out.

The first causes people to rise up against it, and the second makes people indifferent to it. It causes FAR more harm in the end. Congrats Al and Chance. Nexus,
Thanks for sharing your graphic images. Those shafts of light are a symbol of hope for the future. Incidentally, not to derail this discussion, but with respect to rebuilding at Ground Zero: did you know that the Empire State Building was designed by the architects (based on 2 previous projects) in just 2 weeks? Excavation began on January 21, 1930, with construction beginning on March 17 of that year. The official ribbon cutting was on May 1, 1931. And more than 10 years after the September Eleventh Atrocities, Ground Zero is still a scar. What has paralyzed us? What has become of us? Also, I didn't know this, but when I looked up the dates to make sure my memory wasn't tricking me regarding the rapidity with which the ESB was completed, I learned that it, too, was the scene of a terror attack. According to the ever-reliable Wikipedia: Quote:
On February 24, 1997, a Palestinian gunman shot seven people on the observation deck, killing one, then fatally wounding himself. Woland |

In fact, to read some of the posts here, the President's re-election campaign will be based in large part on his successful management of an extrajudicial execution. On the contrary, I do see it that way, and it's why I will not vote for him no matter what scary candidate the Republicans put forth.
