I will be making a Ghost appear in my Illusion Show... The Show being the Showcase of that particular Ghost's legend in story form.

I will be playing it as "real" as I can. With sounds and smells, incense etc... Using real "Spiritual" rituals from my culture.

Remember, in Malaysia, most believe that if you invoke spirits (even in jest), they will appear FOR REAL.

Using that belief, I will use the Pendulum and other "tests" to induce trance to suggest that though this is a Show, the Spirit has really been invoked... Almost like in a Seance.

Any other suggestions ye Hypnotists here?

I´m curious - if you´re going to be "playing it real" so to speak, wouldn´t that involve leaving out the pretalk and potentially hypnotizing people that shouldn´t be hypnotized? Smile
If you never fail, you're not trying hard enough.

It would not really be Hypnosis per se...

Just trance like how you would experience watching a Horror Movie at the cinema.

Like how Derren Brown did his Seance Show on TV.

When Derren transformed the participant into a medium he put her into a trance, quite likely he also preshow hypnotised her. If he didn't use a stooge he did indeed use a full trance.
If you want to go for a "trance like how you would experience watching a Horror Movie at the cinema" you probably wouldn't need any hypnosis. This is rather what we call tension. If your show is tense and catches the audience they will go into that particular type of 'trance' by themselves. Did you think of using a stooge for this show? If she/he is good at acting that might work well, too.

Apart from that you could use subliminal messaging ( Caleb Strange has some nice work on that in 'Garden of the Strange' ).

If you want to put in something like the pendulum you could go for Paul Voodini's 'Human Pendulum'. I imagine it would work well with this type of show.

Thanks Timonk...

I would like it to go just that little bit more than just a scary Show... Smile Trance is rarely used with Illusions as far as I know.

I will also attempt the "Superglued Feet" with the Audience with the covert approach... Saying the Spirits are doing it. Smile

And thanks for the suggestions! Will consider... Smile

Pakar, go to the site http://www.readerofminds.co.uk and get in contact with Paul Voodini. He will tell you what you need to know. That's fairly much what he does, and he has a range of reasonably priced books explaining how.

Hi Pakar,

after spending some time with Docc Hilford and Nick Belleas in New York this last week I have really come to appreciate that less is more in seance, spirit contact kind of routines. Those guys can make an act dance on the tiniest of ideomotor phenomena. However as you are aware you can get all of the phenomena you need with task instructions and encouragement. The seemingly possessed/regressed was one of the strongest parts of DB's seance for me. Ensure the mentalism is there to back everything up.

Definitely check out Paul Voodini's work. I trained him in hypnosis he is very good and creative. This was a real honor as I had already seen him perform his propless spirit act and love his style. Like his seance work once he understood what to do with hypnosis he quickly realised he had pretty much been doing it all along. The approach he has developed is not tied to any of the formalities of hypnosis. As yours is not either I think you will get a lot of value from chatting with him.
