Please tell me that this did not happen in a 1st world country. I am sickened by this. We give the Asians so much %^&* about their treatment of animals and lack of laws and then this happens. I realize that they will be punished severely but still.
I am at a loss for words.

Thanks Balducci.
There seems to conflicting comments on whether the cull would have been legal or not. I am saddened by this as I ciriticize Asian people very often for their laid back approach to this (yes I have !@#$%ed about the seal hunts) but this is just not what I had expected when a friend told me about it. Shocked is an understatement. The first comment was that it must have been Asian immigrants. Fawcett lays that notion to rest.

I looked at more on this and it is so hypocritical that PETA is writing about this on their website considering the 25,840 animals they've killed at their own shelters since 1998.
That's, well, 258.40 times as many, ain't it?

PETA generally don't slash their throats or blow their faces off with a shotgun in front of the other animals. It's kinda different.

You think so? So if somebody sticks every person you've ever met with a needle and they all die and get thrown in dumpsters, that's better than shooting one person you know? 25,840!!!
Let me put it another way, The percentage of animals they killed in one particularly bad year- 97.3%. That's the highest percentage in the country. By a lot.
Give me a break. The people in Canada that did this are sick and PETA is sick. And PETA can't condemn others for doing what they do a lot more of.

It really isn't the same issue. They may both be wrong, but "we have been enthusiastic... ok ok, alarmingly over-zealous with our humane killing of rescue pets" does not equal "we have no moral leg to stand on with regards to offering an opinion on this horrific canuck canine gore-fest". IMO, ofc.
I did get the impression that it is the horrific manner of execution more than the cull itself which is the newsworthy issue here.

EDIT: not following that link, shocking photos aren't my thing.

We seem to have a difference of opinion. I can't see a lethal injection as more human than a gunshot or throat slash. Isn't the throat slash the humane manner of slaughter for a kosher certification?
In my opinion; bullet, needle, or knife all have the same result.
I felt exactly the same looking at the sled dog photos as I did looking at the PETA ones. Disgusted.
It's fine if you disagree, that's just how I feel about it.

No problem on the link either. That's why I made it clear that they're messed up so folks could make an informed decision whether they wanted to see that.

I thik they are different issues though. PETA is being hypocrites, and I agree with you.
The brutality of the link I posted is what I have a problem with.

Almost everyone in Canada agrees with you. It was stupid, cruel and thoughtless.

The problem is two-fold though.
First, it is very bad publicity for Canada.
Second, it gives those being criticized for their abuses ammunition to say "hey, it happens in Canada too"
Rubbish argument, but we know by now that people will say anything to justify their own shortcomings. Just a pity it happens to be this.

As someone who has owned two of the sled dog breed of dogs it makes me extra angry. Those are great dogs. My Mom kind of took over my huskie, Sean Connery, who is old but still alive and is still the gentlest and best behaved dog there's ever been.

Okay, so what does this have to do with Canada eh! (lol)

P.S. as a dog owner and animal lover, I was truly saddened when I first heard about this.
