If I buy his stage videos what would I have to buy?
Also what are some other good stage videos?

If you are asking what other props you would have to buy then you would probably be looking at a dancing cane, a zombie, silk tube (I think). There is some good stuff in there using some standard props (ie spring flowers, silks etc) and some good advice regarding how to use the stage etc...

I think his tapes are excellent, and worth the investment. You will need Linking Rings, Silks, Ropes, and a lot of other basic magic props. Even if you don't have a nice set of linking rings, you'll still benefit from the rope tricks, or other effects. Hope this helps!

I also agree that the tapes are very much worth the investment. He shows you a lot of useful stage effects using common props. Also he teaches you movement and how best to get the most impact out of your stage performance.

What props do I need to buy? I don't have the tapes yet so I have no clue. Can someone make a list?

You will need: Silks, Vanishing cane, linking rings, rope, mouth coils, egg and fan for egg on fan, 20 century silks, fountain of silks, Chen Lee water suspension, snowstorms, dancing cane, zombie ball. This is the majority of the items for all three tapes. I'm sure I may have left out something.

These are great and all, but why go out and buy all this stuff until you have had a chance to review the tapes. Also, it is important to consider who your target audience is and just what kind of shows you will want to present and what shows you will have a chance to perform in your area.
If most of your shows are for kids' parties or for family crowds, then this material may not benefit you as much and it may be a bad investment. Also, try to make sure you learn from the McBride tapes the fundametals and techniques he shows. Do not do the routines exactly like Jeff performs them. Then you are becoming a clone and not exploring your own style and character.

I was going to say earlier you won't need all the props used in the series, because I know for a fact you won't perform all the effects included on the tape - nobody will.
The advantage of having such a large variety of effects over the 3 video series - is you can select which ones you like and work on them until they are perfect - they work on them even some more Kyle summed it up pretty well! Kevin |

Thanks Kevin:
I just see too many magicians not only learning the moves on the tape, but doing the routines the exact same way. This does nothing but build more McBride clones. The magic world does not need more of them. Jeff does a fine job by himself. Learn to take what you learn and build it into your own style and technique.

I WILL NOT CLONE!!!! I am NOT going to be one of those losers on the street that think they are David Blaine or what ever they learned off of. I am going to try my hardest to learn magic and since books with little diagrams are not helping, I am going to tapes and it seems like it is working. I also can't stand the way Jeff acts. He acts like he knows it all in The Art of Card Manipulation. Don't get me wrong; he is a really nice person and a good teacher, but really did he have to add that bit about him knowing what magicians were doing when they produced cards. Also he is too loose in producing cards. If you were a true able magician you wouldn't be dancing a lot. You would usually be lazy in some ways and don't need the flourish hand work, just the magic. No wave of the hand then poof a card just poof. If every move he made had a meaning then yes I would understand. Like me I produce cards to the apocalypse every time I wave my hand up and down it means a second and produce one falls then wave my hand up and down maybe 2 to 3 seconds pass produce one falls. That time spent in waving the hand means the time in which the cards are falling into darkness or death. The falling just means the death of someone. I am sorry if this is a little morbid but this is what ends my act so that's why I put that meaning to the card production. Also my Mom says never use Tarot cards because they are evil and cards were spawned off tarot cards and that is what also gave me the idea. Oh and this is a hidden meaning so if I get a good show going don't spoil the act for anyone please.
Sorry for losing it but all I get around here is that "Oh look a little David Copperfield." Drives me insane. Oh and thank you everyone for the info.

All that plus linking rings, dancing cane, zombie, vanishing cane, silk streamers etc. etc.
You must have a large budget if you plan to buy all of these! Be realistic and down to earth, please! |

First of all the moves and so called useless waving McBride is doing is called preforming. He is making it more pleasing to the eye. If you don't like his style in producing cards then find a better one, but don't ever say something about another magician like McBride because of your thoughts alone. You must be in a very bad mood. Jeff is a artist and an original in our art. When you can say that about yourself then begin to judge other acts and personalities but don't word it like you have. I have never heard anyone say something about McBride like that...

One never has to like another's performance style or character on stage. However, you must learn to appreciate the knowledge and dedication that Jeff instills into other people and to everything he does. Jeff is a dedicated performer who has given a lot to advancing the art of magic. We could and should all learn a lot from the example he has set before us.

"He acts like he knows it all in The Art of Card Manipulation."
Wikiro, I've been performing and studying card manipulations for about 40 years and by now I think I'm pretty good at it and a good judge of others. Two performers stand out in my mind when it comes to card manipulation. One is Johnny Hart who was about as smooth amd flawless as you can get and the other is Jeff McBride. In each case I like their style and the quality of execution of their sleights. You are certainly entitled to your opinion about Jeff but I can tell you He really Does know it all, and at the same time is quite modest about it. |

Sorry all. It is just that I have not left this house in the longest time. I have no credit card and my Mom doesn't either. My parents just split a week ago and my dad will not spend a dime on us to save his life. So that leaves out the fact of getting off the Internet. I have to wait until next month to get a money order.
I have money from working at a festival doing trash work. It was The Silver Lake festival in PA 2 months ago. Little place filled with drunks at night. A friend helped me get the job. Big kid too... he had to take down a mean drunk the first night (don't tell my Mom or I will not work there next year... that money goes to magic while my real job goes to college). I was paid $123 for a weekend job. Not bad actually. Don't get me wrong we are not a poor family - just about in the middle. It's just that my Mom thinks I'm a kid still. Im 17 years old for crying out loud!!!! Then there is that little fact that no one will help me practice all I have is one mirror (no help with card manipulation becaue to me I look alright but to everyone else they see the side of the fan or the tenkai's are slanted wrong). I am SO SORRY for being a jerk and I finally have some of that off my chest. I guess I complain about everything else other than what I should have. Well, I have to tell my Mom what I think and if I don't post in a couple of days call the police hehehe*. *that was a joke by wikiro and it is not to be taken seriously. I once had someone take a joke seriously and...not pretty.
