Hi gang...

Been using a simple Peavey Escort sound system for about 8 years already. I recently added an extra powered speaker that serves as the monitor. This speaker faces me and is placed basically in front of me. I like the effect because I can hear myself better even in a noisy environment.

I am also checking out the Shure PSM 900 which is an in-ear monitor.

Has anyone tried using an in-ear monitor?

I've never used an in-ear but know several musicians who use them.

As I get older my hearing has gone down hill. An in-ear monitor would probably, for me, affect how well I can hear the audience when I play with them. So I've never gone that direction. Bad batteries or poor signal can effect a wireless, I've never had issues with things that are hard-wired. For that reason, I really like my small powered monitor. They make a huge difference.

Let us know how it goes for you!

Thanks Tom Smile

I'm still enjoying my powered monitor and might not try an in-ear monitor just yet because it's quite espensive. But I was told, an in-ear monitor is a lot better and could enhance a performance, well at least for singers. I'm not sure if it will also enhance a vent act Smile

I do some television and always use an IFB in order to keep in touch with the booth. Sometimes they hit a "program" control and play back my own voice to me along with everything else going on, and it gives me a sense of the whole picture. Not sure, though, that you'd have much use for it, as you've already got a speaker.
