I don't think pockets is a subject that hasn't been touched on in this forum too much...So, I ask if anyone can recommend a reference for going into multiple dove pockets????I have many videos but they are all too vague on the subject. I currently have two(one on each side of my coat) but it is time to move on...I've followed the directions of the chavez book, as recommended by Mr. Levkovitch, but I still feel I have a problem....When I see myself on video I cannot see the bulges...Maybe I'm just too conscious of it...Any recommendations comments etc...????

Roy, you've touched on two distinct areas. Which pockets and how to align them and the coat itself. No matter how you set up the multiple pockets or single pockets for that matter, if your coat isn't right, there will be bulges. The remedy depends on how much you are willing to spend on your coat. Ideally, at least in my experience, your coat needs to be 2 sizes larger than normal. Shoulder pads will take up some of the extra size. This gives enough room for the birds to reduce or eliminate bulge. You can also have stiffening material sewn into the breast to keep its shape after the productions.
As for the pockets themselves there are several solutions. First, if you use Gen grant pockets, you can get them with 1, 2 or 3 pockets already made into one unit. You just sewn the unit onto your coat. If not, and you use single pockets like the Tony Clark design, start with the lowest pocket first. Sew it in place and overlap the second one so the bottom of it sits just above where the top of the dove in the first one sits. This will give the rounded smooth look you need.

Dave,
Thanks!!! Yes, I have gone through all those steps on preparing the coat (stiffener and everything). I even bought my coat three times too large and had to get it fixed cuz it was too big...Anyhow, I had looked into the Grant pockets but Denny (Denny&Lee) (if I understood him correctly) told me those are no longer made and therefore hard to get! Well, thanks for your info!!! I guess my mind is still programmed to think in terms of close-up magic and that is why I might think my loads are still too visible. |

Roy, if you want the Gen Grant pockets, send a message to him directly. His email is ggmagic@aol.com. Denny still has them listed on his web site but I'm sure they are getting scarce.
