I really like Curtis Kam's Psyhic Exchange in the May issue of Magic.
It uses 5 coins from 5 different countries, all around the same size. One coin is selected and all the others are changed to match the selected one. In "Magic" it was half dollars. I went through all my international coins to see which ones I had that were close in size to a half dollar. A couple that I found were a 5 Swiss Franc coin and a Costa Rican 20 COLONES. Now, I just need to find two more. I want to use coins that are still in circulation and look different. Should be able to find what I need on Ebay. I anyone has any thoughts let me know. Does anyone know if the Gypsy Switch used for this routine, is covered in more detail in Kabbala, which was referenced in the write up in Magic? Craig

They are a bit smaller but UK £2 coins are similar in size to half dollars and are strikingly different.

Thanks Pete,
I was looking at the UK coins yesterday. I liked how the backs of the coins formed a shield. Craig

Craig,
This page has sizes (diameter/thickness) for coins near half-dollar size: http://www.themagicianscoin.com/the-coins/medium-coins It's a very nice resource for larger and smaller coins, as well. I don't know how thorough it is - there's lots of coins in the world. -) Larry S. |

Craig,
I came across a 100 Drachmas Greek coin with Alexander the Great on it, it is just a touch smaller than a half dollar at 29.5 mm. It looks pretty neat, has a color closer to a pale golden due to its alloy being Copper 92%, Alumnium 6%, and Nickel 2%. I liked it because it is a definite color difference compared to my English Pennies and Kennedy Halfs. See it on this page about halfway down: http://www.fleur-de-coin.com/currency/greek100drachmas.asp Anyway, I found it in a box of loose foreign coins at a local coin shop and paid about $2 for it (which is probably high, but I liked it so I splurged ). I hope this helps. Barry |

The Canadian two-dollar coin (or "Toonie") has a very unusual "coin-in-coin" appearance, and it's not very far from half-dollar size. (about 28mm)

The Greek coin is nice. The way their economy is, they may go back to using them.
I'll have to check my stash of Canadian coins, left over from my days in Detroit. Thanks guys.

Here's a few other European coins still in circulation that are close to a US half.
Both the Danish 5 Krone and the Swedish 5 Krona coins are 28.5 mm
