What are your favorite Stay Stack or Mirrored Stack effects?

Nash's ovation comes to mind. I don't have Goldstein's new book "Redivider", but maybe someone can comment on it.
I also like Krenzel's Princess trick using the stack from his first book. |

Where is the best original write up of the stay stack located in literature?

Check Russduck's original magazine, "The Cardiste". Russell Duck (Russduck) was the strongest proponent of work with the Stay Stack ever. He had a Stay Stack routine or more, and tips on the stack, published in virtually EVERY issue of his magazine. The "Cardiste" came out in the fiftie's, for less than a year. In fact, it lasted 11 issues, one short of a year. It was re-printed as a book in the eighties, or early nineties, and, as an added bonus, had an issue 12 and a special issue, 13, bound in. There is some real treasure in this magazine, though it is hard to find in any form at this point.
I want to point out that the concepts of the Stay Stack, Mirror Stacks, and related ideas were not new at the time of the "Cardiste's" publication, and are certainly not revolutionary now. Charles T. Jordan explored avenues related to these types of stacks way back in the twenties. Another magician who spent quite a bit of time on this material was Jack McMillen, who was heavily influenced by Jordan's thinking. There is some material in early Genii magazines (1936-1950) by Jack and some of his cronies, including Charlie Nyquist and Judson Brown, that is worth looking for. I'm not so sure about this next info, but I BELIEVE that there is some stay stack work in the "T. Page Wright Notebooks", a book that was published by "Daniel's Den", again, sometime in the late eighty's or early ninety's. "Ibidem" (P. Howard Lyons)had some contributions worth looking up, and I'm sure Marlo explored the principle, but have no idea where. Maybe Randy or Jimmy Cards can help on that? A detailed history of the Stay Stack principle would undoubtedly reveal mountains of relatively unknown exploration into the principle and effects based on it. I can piece a fair portion of that history together, and have given the core sources here already. Perhaps others have the time to do a bit more in-depth review? It would be a great project, enormously helpful, and easily converted to a document that people could download and use as a guide when investigating various stack work. Just an idea... Best, PSC

Marlo's work on this subject can be found in IBIDEM Vol 1 and 2, the collected works. In Vol 1 he combined the Progressive Miracle with the half and half principle and a memorised pack. Vol 2 contains his Stay Stack Miracle plus his Stay Stack Prediction, both of which are my favourite Stay Stack effects.
So much to do. So little time.

Simon Aronson has published some ideas on the stay stack principle in "The Aronson Approach" in connection with a memorized deck. After all, the memorized deck is itself a stay stack.

Pchosse,
What a great post. Thanks so much, your information as always is invaluable! I'm enjoying so much some of the background and literature listings of this stack. I certainly would also like to see some posts about certain characteristics this stack allows the performer. One such that was told to me at one time is that an incomplete faro can be given to the deck and still maintain the stack. I'm not sure if this is possible or true, but I'm sure there has to be some Faro correllations that can be coupled with the Stay Stack. |

You can find useful info on Allan Ackermans FARO SHUFFLE video #6 (A-1 MagicalMedia).
He explains the Stay Stack very clearly how to use it with a faro shuffle. |

Sudden Sandwich (Racherbaumer's Cardfixes)
and / or Elmsley's Rising card (Collected Works) Both use the same idea (thank you Mr. Elmsley!) Regards, Doug Conn |

Redivider unfortunately (in my view) concentrates on packet rather than full deck staystacks and the effects are a little ponderous for me.
