I couldn't find this in a search.

I'm currently using IE 8.0.7601.17514 and I keep getting suggestions to upgrade to IE 9.

Any of you guys using IE 9, and are there issues or reasins to stay put for now?

Thanks.

I moved to IE9 with mixed results.

IE8 was slow and balky for me. I dunno what was slowing it down "behind the scenes" but I was visiting some dicey places and I think it was racing as fast as possible to keep me secure, but also I sorta believed many newer sites had web-code features that would work better on IE9.

Now that I'm on 9, many things are faster, though there's some getting-used-to to do ... I don't like the new download process (maybe others do), and I think many Java features don't play well with it (I have to go over to Firefox to make my online banking work, and make my online credit-card site work). Plus a few times a day a page just refuses to come up at all till I hit "reload".

I'd use Firefox exclusively if its bookmarks weren't so hard for me to get used to.

HOWEVER, you might want to abandon any paid antivirus (people still pay for antivirus?) - I had used AVG Free antivirus and liked it but it slowed things, and now the free Microsoft Security Essentials is a joy ... it works, it's free, and it's fast!

Thanks Ross. I appreciate the details.

I too thought IE 8 was a little slower than IE 7, and I notice this too:

But I don't know if it's an ISP issue or IE.

I don't use the paid anti-virus either. I do use Zone Alarm for a firewall and I like it. For downloading: if I'm going to d/l a group I use "Free Download Manager". But for one-offs I just right click and save.

Thanks again,
Beano

Very happy with Firefox here. The add-ons are essential to me: ad blocker, autopager, web of trust, cool previews, easy youtube video downloader. Anyone else have some other favorite add-ons?

Yes I am when I use IE

Faster. Does *some* (but not all) of HTML 5. Works as well as any Microsoft product does.

No reason not to switch. ofcoruse there is even less reason not to switch to chrome.

I moved to Chrome about 12 months ago and nothing has surfaced which makes me rethink that decision.

I have Chrome, Firefox and IE. IE came with the laptop I have now of course and my previous one. On that one and the one I have now I.E. has always worked slower than FF. or Chrome. So I don't really care for I.E. I have moved up to nine but haven't played around with it enough yet to see if I like it. Maybe I will. Speaking of the other two browsers I have noticed a few sites not working very well with them any longer. Could just be an issue on my end but I don't know.

IE? Is that still around? I thought the only people who used that were the ones would couldn't get updates for Netscape anymore.

I know people get attached to things and don't like change, but use something else (anything else) for a month and you'll never go back.

Netscape? That ceased to exist in 2007/2008. Maybe you mean Mozilla Firefox.

Well, I went for it. Briefly.

Since I don't have TV, I get my TV online. Several of the sites I use for that would not work with IE 9.

I couldn't uninstall it the usual way - through Control Panel > Programs and Features. I had to undo the Windows Update. At least that went smoothly.

I haven't tried the TV sites with Fire Fox but I think I will. I need to keep IE because my web site stats show that is what 96% of my viewers are using. I'll just stick with my tried-and-true axiom of "When using Microsoft products, the safest way is to stay a step behind the upgrades." Security updates notwithstanding.
